Popped in for a drink with a work colleague, inside was cosy and warm, and very busy being a Saturday night. I'm addition there was a band playing covers of well known songs which added to the lovely atmosphere. I had a pint of the Chequers Pale Ale which was pretty good as pale ales go! In addition Marlowe's burgers is based inside the pub, so I definitely recommend trying it at lunch for that too.

We came here for a Sunday roast. It's about 18 quid for the chicken roast which relatively speaking ain't bad. But when it arrived it was delicious - moist meat, tasty well seasoned veg and even the Yorkies were hot! Decent sized portions too, would definitely go there again. Staff were also friendly. The whole pub has a cute comforting ambiance with log fire. Recommended

Always a pleasure to frequent this gem! Hannah the bar manager always makes an effort to make me feel welcome and is a delight to talk to! The other bar staff are just as lovely and attentive. The food is good and atmosphere usually lively. Been a regular here for many years now and this new chapter for the pub is certainly its best yet!

Great food and lovely staff. Itβs just a shame that the cosy 16th century coaching inn I knew, with its original features and an open fireplace, has had its insides replaced with the dΓ©cor of a railway station Wetherspoons cosplaying as a Costa Coffee. I overhear people gushing to the bar staff about how wonderful it looks. I sit there livid, wondering how I seem to have stepped through the doors of a traditional inn, only to find myself in a kind of alternate reality, pub-themed ice cream parlour. Before: Hops, cosy fire place, rustic wooden tables, After: Questions... why the 'asking for spillage' carpet? Why install booths by those windows you can no longer look out of? Why use stone tables, like a circular kitchen counter? Why?

The ginger lady with glasses from the bar staff is the rudest person Iβve ever come across in my whole life. She denied entry to me and my sister for having a UK government issued Biometric Residence Permit, saying it was not a valid ID, and that we need to show a driving license. She was not willing to listen to us and understand us even when we showed her proof on the GOV UK Website. We have visited the pub several times before but she is the only one who has denied us entry every single time. Her behavior was absolutely horrendous, and she seriously needs to learn how to respect others. We will not be visiting the pub ever again unless she gets fired or the manager of the pub teaches their employees how to treat customers respectfully.

What a great first pub for our family vacation! The traditional vibe you'd expect from an english bar. Our toddler even was overserved apple juice and passed out on their cushoned bench. They didn't mind serving us gin/tonic, ciders, and food until he woke up. What a magical place!

Absolutely wonderful pub. Staff were excellent: very cheerful and helpful. Lots of history associated with the pub, including holding sessions in the pub and there was a hangman's noose where the beer garden/smoking area is. Loads of dark wood and enough space to move about comfortably. The Guinness was excellent as was the Black Sheep Best Bitter.

Very welcoming and friendly :) nice and quiet when we went on a Sunday, Staff lit candles for us on the tables and were very welcoming. Me and my mum ordered the chicken tenders which had a very nicely seasoned breaded coating and rosemary salted fries which had a lovely sprinkling of chunky salt! we loved it. The beef chili loaded fries were also very tasty. My mum loved her latte and my hot chocolate was super! Would recommend, nice atmosphere and staff

Good atmosphere, friendly bar staff and great pint of tribute. Didn't get food but pretty extensive pizzas and burgers on the menu.
