“Visited the Rose and Crown pub over the weekend while in the area for a wedding. It was the closest place so we took a chance. So glad we did ,the staff were helpful, welcoming and had a great sense of humour ,we were treated like we were old friends .The atmosphere was brilliant the place very comfortable and the food was unbelievable. The attention to detail with each dish was incredible , it was hard to pick a winner so choose what you want it will be delicious. Do yourself a favour when in the area and visit the Rose and Crown you definitely won’t be disappointed. Very highly recommended, thank you to the team for doing such a great job.”
“Branded was very well decorated for the festive season. I placed the order to collect, the order was late by the estimated time by a few minutes but it was understandable as it was Christmas Eve. Love the steaks from branded, there is a noodle dish that is very nice and my personal favourite — surf and turf. Food was still warm when I got home — great choice for dinner. My fillet was perfectly medium rare. The sauces are very nice too, not too rich.”
“Lovely pub, dog friendly and friendly chatty staff. The beer garden is really green and well maintained, clearly very cared for and felt like we were relaxing out in someone's back garden.”
“This is a rather special old inn. We had a wonderful, though very brief, overnight stay with breakfast in the morning, the day after a long road journey. Wound down with a nightcap in the company of James and Jules at the bar; they were great hosts. The room and, in particular, the bed were just superb. The bathroom: everything clean and just as you'd want it. Mary made us a very good breakfast and was also very friendly. It was clear all the staff we met actually care and want their guests to enjoy their stay and be comfortable. Highly recommended.”
“Cracking little pub with friendly locals and warm welcoming staff. TQ.”
“Nice breakfast, good choice of menu. French Toast for me, Breakfast Cassoulet for my wife. Nice feel, good food, friendly staff. Well worth a visit”
“Came in to watch the Euros final - very busy, but was able to reserve a table on the day thanks to the incredibly helpful staff. Incredible atmosphere, with a wealth of historical features. Staff went above and beyond; really fast service despite how busy it was. Excellent range of beers on tap, and very reasonable prices. Can’t wait to visit again.”
“Hired the place out for my 40th party last weekend and had a blast. I paid extra for a late license which takes music up to about 12, but means you don’t have to exit until around 1 - highly recommend for a bit of flexibility. Price is really reasonable for hire, but also the drinks & food are too. The food was fab, I even brought home some for the next day and it was super tasty. Everyone who attended had a fab time and the staff there on the evening couldn’t do enough to make it a special night! I know family who are local will look to use the venue again.”
“Vee old pub. Very local, separate room for seating, huge open log fire, dogs welcome. Bootiful strong cask ale. Landlord was kept on his feet. Honest locals house. NO music, NO gambling machines-bliss. Christmas eve, 2023...spot on”
“We were playing Golf at the London Club and I contacted the pub and asked if they would accommodate 4 of us for a full English breakfast before we went to the Golf Club. The manager Steve called me and it was arranged. We had a reserved table and they did us proud. 3 x Full English, Egg, Fried Slice, Mushroom, Sausage and Beans £9.99. Absolute Bargain. We play this every year so this will definitely be an annual pop in for breakfast! Atmosphere in the pub was great and it was spotless thank you once again”
“Came on friday night, the bar was busy so there was a lovely atmosphere, was pleasantly suprised to find out it was happy hour when we arrived! Seated next to the fire, delicious fish and chips, large portions and fantastic service, thankyou to all the lovely staff”
“Walked here from Shoreham because nowhere there was serving food. Love the atmosphere! Staff and customers were all friendly. Had a couple different beers, cider and food - all delicious!”
“Superb home cooked food and plenty of it at a reasonable price. Proud to have the place in our beautiful village.”
“One of the friendliest pubs around. Ben, the landlord makes you feel very welcome. Food is hearty and tastes like home comforts. Come here if you want the best quality service and company. Highly recommend the fish and chips on a Friday. You will not be disappointed.”
“Had a fantastic meal here with my partner after some friends recommended the restaurant. First time i have tried polish food and is was great! Excellent wine menu as well. We'll be back again soon.”
“Went here for coffee and breakfast. The coffee was delicious and made extremely fast. Service was also really quick and friendly. Had the plant based bap with an egg added which was also made rapidly and cooked to perfection- the chutney in it was really good! The decor was cool too. They do a nice scheme where you can pay forward a free hot drink to a customer and other customers can help themselves. A nice idea. Overall really well done to this place, they’ve got a good thing going and I’ll certainly be back for more”
“They hosted a family wake. Buffet was fresh, delicious and plentiful. Bar prices were very reasonable. Great service. Catered for a member of the party who was gluten free. Would highly recommend.”
“Always a great atmosphere and cheerful pub happy bar staff a real must and certainly no problem here Thanku for happy evening”
“We came to this restaurant for an afternoon tea for my friend's birthday. We were looked after by Dhimant who was very attentive. The sandwiches, scones and cakes were prepared by chef Amro. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and will be back. We thoroughly recommend this restaurant.”
“Really enjoyed our visit there. The staffs there were nice and friendly. The food was really good, much better than norm pub food. They also have good awareness of gluten free in their food. It was very nice to know that the gravy for the Sunday lunch was gluten free anyway. We will definitely visit again if we are around the area.”
“Lovely family run local, rear beer garden and also garden across the road. Plenty of parking. Great service, great beer”
“We found this amazing little place on our way home. The staff are amazing. So polite so helpful and super warmly, they make you feel like you’ve been there many many times! The food is out of this world I always say there’s always an aspect of a meal that can let you down. But this place was amazing at every point the food was unreal. This was the best way to top off a weekend with the family!”
“This is a gem that we stumbled on after a hike at Knole Park! Food was the chicken roast well cooked with incredible portions. The drinks were poured by deft hands. Barry and Mina are exceptional and they have built a beautiful communal space where art is on tap and everyone is polite. Will be visiting again if we are ever in the area!”
“Amazing pub near Knole house. Super accommodating to our group with a muddy dog, amazing Sunday roast, and great service. Had 0.5% beer on draft as well!”
“I thought I would try a new take away this week and I can say I was not disappointed and will be making the lantern my new local! The service was great the lady at the counter was very friendly and bubbly which I am not used to for a take away. The food was steaming hot and full of flavour and tasted like quality and generous portions all at a reasonable price.”
“Rising Sun - Google For a long time this hidden gem was a secret for those on the know. It is difficult to get to and unfindable on TA. It used to be busy when Peter ran it but since he passed away his wife, Michelle, and daughter, Rachel, manage it as a quaint old skool country pub with real ales and ice cream with packaged bar snacks available too. Since Michelle's cohort was affected by the rise in retirement age she is due for her pension in 2026. Until then she has to make ends meet and is finding it hard in this economic climate with fewer patrons. This pub is well worth making the effort to visit. Just come for the atmosphere inside, garden outside and the occasional folk gigs. It keeps on disappearing on TA despite my reviewing it a few times before! It also gets confused with other (much more chic, expensive and flashy) pubs locally and I have reported the misplaced photos. Just go with your loved ones or friends. You will not be disappointed. Cycle or drive there. The boxed Westerham Ales are good though so mind the units. Look out for the rare chicken and cow breeds too!”
“My Local pub, good to go there. Always made to feel welcome. The darts board and pool table are enjoyable!”
“Amazing pub. Picture perfect and totally delivered. The pub is absolutely charming. The food and staff make it a 10/10. Staff could not be more helpful and friendly. Will definitely return again for the Sunday roast . Keep up the good work”
“Excellent food, served in copious quantities. Very friendly and helpful service. They were happy to flex menu items to meet what we wanted, and provided takeaway boxes for the leftovers. I would definitely recommend.”
“We frequently stop here on our Sunday dog walks for breakfast and drinks - lovely inside & out and very dog friendly… have also had yummy long lunches here…. Always a friendly welcome!”
