    It's a Heron, it's not some sort of destination place that looking at these reviews people think it should be, Sheesh, it's a shop. I only knocked a star off because their sweets and desserts are usually cheap and therefore you can't say no. Ergo you get fat, I should take a star off myself really as my lack of self control isn't really Heron's fault, but I don't think I can review myself?? Maybe Heron can start reviewing their customers?? There's an idea...

    Nice little store, has a few bargains that I like to grab whilst visiting family within the area. A smaller shop than others I have been too. Staff are friendly and kind and there is parking access.

    This place has always been the best, but recently the staff have become unfriendly, especially the male employees. They don’t smile, are lazy when it comes to service, and get annoyed when asked about a specific item. There have been many disappointing situations. They also get irritated by my autistic son, who sometimes screams. I apologize on his behalf, but they show no kind or understanding reaction in return. On one occasion, I bought a pack of crΓ¨me caramel cups, and after leaving the store in one minute , I noticed that one of them was opened. I immediately returned to exchange it. I asked the first employee, who told me to go check if there was another pack available so that I could exchange it. I went myself, found a new pack, and brought it to another employee, who asked me to stand in the cashier line. When I finally reached the cashier, he nodded in an unfriendly way, took the opened cup, and handed me the sealed one. The entire process was ridiculous, and they treated me as if I were trying to take something for free. The first employee should have exchanged it directly instead of tossing me from one staff member to another. In the end, no one apologized for wasting my time. Another incident happened when I bought a selection of sweets for my children. While paying, my autistic child brought an additional sweet item, and I asked the cashier politely, β€œCan I add this, please?” He nodded with annoyance. (This incident happened specifically today, Thursday, June 19, 2025, at 3:25 PM.) One last note: Staff have become reluctant to provide receipts. Little ask if you want a receipt. Most don’t ask at all. Most get annoyed when asked. Please educate the staff that providing a payment receipt is a basic right of the customer, we are not shopping for free. Please instruct the staff, especially the male employees, to treat everyone kindly and equally. I often see them smiling and laughing among themselves through the communication device connected to their ears, While they frown at the customer.

    I was shopping there with my son( he is a special needs child), we put the basket at the till and then I asked for a bag, the lad from there hand me the bag and I wanted to bag my itmes, he told me he didn’t scan the sweets and the bag, so I have to give him the bag back, the look that he gave me and to my child made me feel like crap. I left the shop after I payed and looking at my son, I realised that he took something in his hand and I haven’t pay, so I went back into the shop and do apologise and ask to pay. The other lad from the till gave me that look and ask me to wait to call his manager. The manager arrived and I explained the situation and she said that’s fine and I can pay. The bag of chocolates was open so he couldn’t scan, I gave him another bag from down there at the end he asked me to put that bag back wile my son was dragging my hand. I never seen people like them , staring at a child with special needs and don’t understand why they should act like and make you feel awful. It’s a shame those days to treat people like that!!!

    Thank You Heron foods for opening a store here in Smiths Wood. I have been in several times now, they have a great range of grocery products, great prices and great staff too. This supermarket is just what we need in this area as Spar is far too expensive.
