Firstly I would disregard all the reviews. We went in late on a Sunday evening to a pristine pub, attentive staff and delicious roast beef Sunday dinner. The food was faultless and at a super reasonable price too. I will certainly be coming again

We stayed in a cottage nearby. We were looking for a local pub nearby that was dog friendly and children friendly, which also served food. We were not disappointed. We have an autistic teenager and a child who is a picky eater. Both really enjoyed their meals, which is a rearity. The staff were friendly and helpful. The locals were friendly as well. This is the only pub we have been to locally that the kids have not wanted to leave after eating their meals and have asked if we will come back to . Definitely be coming back as we only live about an hours drive. We will definitely be back as the kids and the dog definitely enjoyed their stay and their meal there.

My partner and I booked a room here, initially due to the excellent value proposition. This was to support in our travels through the Peaks and with just a 10 minute drive to Buxton it was ideal. To say our stay exceeded expectations would be an understatement. The owners couldn't do enough for us and I have never felt so at home when staying away. Our room was clean, comfortable and everything functioned as you'd expect without fault. If it did malfunction, we knew exactly where to go (as covered on check in). There was free WiFi available and plentiful facilities and toiletries, free on-site parking is also available here. The pub is shrouded in history, warm and welcoming. It was quiet during our stay so we decided to order food and we're glad we did. The quality was bar none, superb value for money and so delicious it convinced us to order breakfast the following morning too. Breakfast I think was the highlight of our stay. Due to our schedule the owners ensured everything was ready for us coming down and even had the fire burning next to our chosen table. The Shady Oak was a wonderful start to our trip and we cannot recommend it enough. Even if you don't need a room, it's well worth stopping by for a bite to eat and something to drink.

Good location, bar staff were friendly but smoking a vape behind the bar. It feels like it needs a good clean and the shelves behind the bar were almost empty. Always have full shelves behind a bar it makes it look more appealing. There is paper falling from the ceiling where they have had a leak, a bit of paste and a quick paint would make a massive difference. We didn't try the food due to the above reasons. Overall everyone was friendly and welcoming and as it has just been taken over by new people I am sure this will improve, although the above could be done in the meantime, while it is quiet grab a cloth. Nice touch having the open fire going on the colder days.

Stayed in a nearby cottage and popped in here to watch the Rugby and have food and drinks. The lady behind the bar was fantastic brining us fresh drinks whenever we were running dry. They were on a reduced menu at the time for food but still enough to choose and was all good. Locals in the pub were all very nice too.

Nice cosy pub.....arrived at 1130am... can we have some pizza.... sorry not any left, any salmon.... nope... any lamb shank.. nope... any steak and ale pie... only one. So only 1/7 got their original order..... you can do better lads.... Could be better and a real shame as the place was a nice old fashioned 1980s pub with a log fire. Had we not had those issues, would have been a strong 4.5*

Been in for a drink a number of times but this time I stopped for food as well. The sausage ring with mash, veg and onion gravy was very well done and very tasty. Decent portion without overdoing it. The Timothy Taylor Landlord was drinking nicely too. Good service and friendly staff.

Great food, service and a good range of beers. Staff were really friendly as were the owners, dog friendly too. We stayed the night in our motorhome, would definately recommend and stay again when we come this way in the furure.

Went on Saturday night 8th of October 2022 had a couple of drinks served by the most polite barman we had ever had the honour to be served by. On Sunday we were quite late and hungry, thought we might have been to late for food but he told us that that we would be ok. My wife and myself had the fatest chicken burger in the world, came to about £30 for the two of us. Definitely be back, although we’re tourists so it will probably be next year.

Friendly staff and locals made us feel welcome, good food, fair prices. Didn't seem to mind our 2 year old running about the place on an otherwise quiet Sunday evening. Well worth a stop for the great views if you're walking / camping in the area.
