   This is our second stay for one week within two years. We opted for a Traditional (Pet Friendly) Lodge as this time brought the dogs. The lodge was clean throughout and had comfy beds. Although we paid for an early check-in, on arrival the lodge was still being cleaned and the cleaner stated she was not informed of our early arrival. (Lack of communication between the site office and cleaning staff). The lodge has all cooking equipment although there was only 3 forks in the cutlery draw. The hot tub is a great addition to wind down and is lovely and warm. Unfortunately there is no access to the Forrest for walks and restricted to a small walk around the old camp grounds that remain on site. (See pictures). We didn’t receive the welcome pack that states you do on the website that consisted of a bottle of wine, chocolates, dog treats and a dog towel. Although only a minor addition we did question this with the office and were informed this stopped over a year ago. Hopefully they’ll update their website and remove the information leaflets in the lodges stating they do. During our stay we had a couple of takeaways that deliver straight to your lodge which was great not having to travel out and collect. There are two supermarkets (ASDA and Tesco) within a 5 minute drive of the park which was perfect. Free WiFi is available and had no issues streaming TV. We didn’t have a mobile signal (Vodafone) but luckily could use the WiFi to make calls when needed. Finally, due to the Hot weather there are a large amount of wasps which are pretty angry whilst you sit outside. We managed to make a trap with a water bottle and some sugar water which we placed in a corner of the decking which kept them interested and away from us majority of the time.

   We were told not to report to the reception and go straight to our accommodation, as there was no map of the site and I was having difficulty reading the on-site map on my phone we proceeded to the reception. We were greeted by a very gruff man who was rather rude, not what you expect. I appreciate the lodges are in a rural setting, but the decking had not been cleaned or brushed, the back windows were also dirty. We were not allowed a second key as is stated in the terms and conditions. The younger gentleman on the site was very nice.

   Excellent stay. Lodge was spotless inside, had all the facilities and equipment you’d need for a weekend away. We stayed at another resort the weekend prior and was so disappointed so we were a little apprehensive going away for the second weekend in a row. However this stay was perfect. Lovely big bath. We didn’t actually use the hot tub, the outside area could have done with a little spring clean, but this didn’t bother us. We had the edge lodge so felt lovely and private. Heating easy to use. Close to Sherwood Forest.

   I've been coming to Sherwood Hideaway for the past six years, and while I’ve always enjoyed my stays, I couldn’t help but feel that the lodge is starting to show its age. What used to be a charming, hidden retreat now seems to have grown in popularity, and unfortunately, that comes with increased wear and tear. This time, I noticed several areas that could use some attention. The lodge itself looked a bit tired, and some of the facilities felt outdated - especially the kitchen. The blinds in the living space didn’t fully cover the windows, which was a bit inconvenient, and the hot tub jets weren’t as powerful as I remember from previous visits. Cleanliness was also a concern. While it was clear that the cleaners had just been in when I arrived - the floor was still wet and smelled of bleach - the actual cleaning didn’t seem thorough. There was still visible dirt on the floor, worktops and table, when I moved the coffee table, I was surprised to find a lot of dust and grime underneath. Additionally, one of the chairs felt wobbly, with the back not securely attached to the base. I stayed in Lodge 21, and while I still appreciate the peaceful setting of Sherwood Hideaway, I do feel that a bit of refurbishment and more attention to detail in maintenance and cleaning would go a long way in bringing back the high standard I used to associate with this place.

   Our family's stay at Sherwood Hideaway was a complete and utter disaster, a stark contrast to the relaxing break we desperately needed with our 12-week-old baby. This experience was a masterclass in how to ruin a family holiday. From the outset, we were misled. We specifically confirmed a travel cot would fit in the master bedroom, yet arrived to a lodge that was not only different from the advertised images but also completely unsuitable for our needs. The initial lodge was cramped and nothing like the photos, and the promised cot space simply didn't exist. The "solution" was equally appalling. We were moved to a replacement lodge that was a catalogue of errors: a strong pet odor (despite not booking pet-friendly), a blocked dishwasher, a leaking shower, and a dangerously leaking ceiling. The state of the accommodation was unacceptable, clearly demonstrating run-down and poorly maintained lodges. However, the accommodation issues were overshadowed by the utterly appalling customer service. Alison, a receptionist, was exceptionally rude and dismissive. She verbally attacked me, making false accusations and dismissing my concerns with a level of aggression that left me in tears. Her behavior was deeply unprofessional and incredibly upsetting. Promises of callbacks from management were consistently ignored, leaving us feeling completely disregarded. This is not a family-friendly environment. The misleading information, the substandard accommodation, and the dismissive, abusive staff made our first family holiday a nightmare. We were made to feel like a burden, and the stress caused was immense. Sherwood Hideaway is not worth the money. The lodges are not as advertised, the customer service is dreadful, and it is certainly not a place for families. If you are looking for a relaxing, family-friendly getaway, stay elsewhere. You will regret wasting your time and money on this establishment.
