As of Spring 2024. The only reason I moved to The Gateway is that they take pets, unlike any other place I could find in Sheffield. Note: there may still be a "Response from the owner" below this review, that may be an old response from the previous owner to my original review. The Gateway was built in 2008 as cheap student housing and is a very defective building inside and out. Currently they are re-cladding the building, which will go on for months and eliminates the use of patios and balconies. This work goes on 6 days a week. Temperatures: you will freeze in the winter and bake in the summer. There is no insulation in interior walls or between ceilings and floors, and units are riddled with cracks, gaps and holes around doors, windows, and in walls behind appliances. There are near constant strong winds in the winter so it is like having air conditioning running full blast all the time. I live alone and only heat the living room and my electric bill is £200 per month in the winter. Noise: the property has a main rail line and busy Broad Street immediately to the south, a major roundabout to the west, and the A61 and tram lines immediately to the north. Unless you are deaf or sleep like the dead you will never sleep past about 8:00 a.m. due to noise. Fixtures and fittings: super cheap, flimsy furniture from 2008. Bare white walls, cheap grey blinds and shades that do not block the light. I have to cover my eyes with a mask or something at sunup to block the light so that I can sleep. Radiators are small and there is no timer or thermostat so heat is either on or off at full power. Bathrooms are unheated. They have heated towel racks that take a full hour to heat up so are useless. Design: the kitchen has 3 small cabinets, 3 drawers, and barely any counter space. Ranges are electric and difficult to use for serious cooking. Room doors open against the fridge and wardrobes. Two-bath units have toilets back to back and waste from one will go into the other due to bad design that is not repairable. Management: previously managed by Fresh who were 100% useless. Currently owned and managed by QED. They are generally responsive and are repairing the worst of the health and safety issues. However, the interior spaces and common areas of the building are still very dilapidated, cold and unfriendly. Area and parking: there are no stores, restaurants or even a post box anywhere near and the building faces derelict and burnt out buildings on Broad Street. There is paid parking under the building, but the spaces are so small that you can't open two car doors at once. There is no guest parking of any kind in the building or on nearby streets.

Flats were okay inside, high ceilings which were attractive. The neighborhood is DODGY, you can hear smackheads screaming at each other all night. Right opposite the massive roundabout so always noisy from sirens, car horns and general traffic. Rent was raised three times in one year, in the middle of COVID, while a significant amount of people were on furlough; due to the various issues affecting the building (plumbing, electrical issues, damp), some rent prices have come down because they are desperate for tenants, but don't be sucked in - they will go up again any time they feel they can get away with it. Left after two years on principle. Overall, seriously not worth the hassle. Just ask one of the dozen property managers who have left over the last few years alone due to the stress and terrible management.

My personal experience so far (6 months) have been very pleasant, reading the other reviews its the opposite of what i've experienced so far. One thing to note is that its often difficult to brand a company a bad name when it could well be an employee at the time in post. The current staff Gina and co (including the cleaners) have all been extremely friendly and helpful in all issues. My heater in the living room packed in and they had someone out to fix within a few days. Sounds like some terrible past employees rather than a bad business. Everything I've needed has been met swiftly and efficiently. The apartments themselves are finished to a really high quality and although on the upper end of the market price wise, provide enough value to justify. The roof terrace is a nice addition which I believe there may be some plans to run events in the summer.

My partner and I have recently relocated having lived in The Gateway Sheffield for 2 years and we would highly recommend them to anybody. They have excellent, furbished flats with a modern design to them. We especially liked the cleanliness feel they offer and are reasonably priced. This was important as we moved here following university as we became working professionals. We found many others in the same position and hence had no disturbances throughout our time here. We did move from the first floor to third floor after 1 year and the quality of flat didn't differ. If we were to return to Sheffield, it would certainly be on our go-to lists for a place to live.

Lived in this place for a year now. Had it’s ups and downs when moving into the building, however that was expected seeing as we were the first tenants in the flat. But when the new manager of the building took over, it changed a lot and things started to pick up and get fixed, he’s been helpful and a lot more organised at sorting the building issues out! Overall the flats are bright and well set out. The carparking area is secured and spacious and key fob accessed. It’s be a great place to live for my final year of uni!

These people are literally the worst landlords with which I have ever had to contend. They took over from the previous landlords over a year ago, and I had nothing but trouble from them. The extractor fans in the bathrooms stopped working so I had black mould growing everywhere. They gave me multiple dates of when repair men would come, and none did. It took them 9 MONTHS to get someone to come and look at the mould which was a health hazard. I had it from my doctor that this could be what aggravated my asthma. This is a completely incompetent company that clearly only cares about your money and nothing else. I could go on and on with reasons they were absoutle garbage. Do your self a favour and DO NOT live in this building. There are dozens of other apartment buildings in Sheffield; pick any of them. A cardboard box under a bridge would be better for you than this complex. DO NOT LIVE HERE!
