   Rang up to pay for two pieces of wood, specifically asked for a 500 & 300 cut to be taken out of each length to leave a 400 off cut. The reply was "you want 2 pieces at 500 & 2 at 300, yeah that's fine" to which I replied "I want a 500 & a 300 out of each piece". Wonder what happened when my friend went to collect the pieces, the exact thing I didn't want. Cut both 500 out of a sheet leaving 200 & both 300 out of the other leaving 600 & to top it of they even tried to keep the off cuts. I understand things get lost in translation but I made it crystal clear & repeated myself multiple times. If something like that is too hard to comprehend then you'd better of going somewhere else

   7 June 2025 - I used this branch of Champion to source some MDF for a project. Being a complete novice with carpentry, I was reliant on the staff to provide reliable advice. On balance, the yard hands were more experienced and knowledgeable than the cashiers but nevertheless, the item provided was fit for purpose and inexpensive. Digressing, the retail shop was well stocked and presented.

   Purchased 10 x Plasterboard sheets, 4 were damaged, paper torn on face side and edges blown, also £12.30 sheet where as Wickes is £8.50 for same manufacturer product!

   ABOVE & BEYOND I am unskilled and once again took a drawing to Sutton Champions for an idea I had to build a mini radiator style cover to hold and protect my modem. Adam was able to offer suggestions and cut to size what I needed. He also got advice on specialist screws to use and even though Grant had completed the till transaction Adam realised there was a cheaper option and Steve happily organised the refund. They also checked if I had the right screw driver for the specialist screws. Nothing was too much trouble. Even when Adam realised I hadn’t travelled by car he wrapped the items together with plastic wrap so that it would make them easier to carry. I can’t praise them enough. They gave me their time and expert advice even when there were other customers to serve. I completed my project the same day and it was mostly due to their correct cutting to size and specialist screws. Thank you Champions.

   Every time I’ve been to this store I’ve always walked out cross and irritated. The staff just seem to have a knack of not providing friendly customer service - so much so that I’ve sourced all the wood (£3k) for my project elsewhere. Despite them being the best place to buy some of the other stuff I need I absolutely will not be purchasing here again. There’s a few other 1 star reviews on here - they’re all very believable.

   What a great place to get all your timber and needed tools. Great staff. Mick. He approached us as we entered today and offered his assistance throughout. He helped us with ALL the stuff that was needed for a complete new fence. Helped with the loading too. He even guided us to complete a trade account form. I felt so much helped by him and to show my appreciation, I written this review. Thank you Mick again.
