Fantastic stay in this old hotel. Very warm and cosy room without needing any heating on. Comfortable bed and large room. Staff very friendly and helpful. Added advantage being right in city centre next to the Christmas markets. Handy being able to leave luggage during the stay whilst wandering round this ancient city. Would highly recommend

Booked a table for 2 and did speak to them about my wife being coeliac ( Gluten free ) and was told NO problem. I had the steak and it was passable and my wife had Sea Bass and it was the worst meal she as ever had. The sea bass was just plonked on top the chips and it looked like a piece of cardboard and the veg was cold. I spoke to them and they tried to make excuses for the chef. In the end they did knock 25% of my wife's meal and gave us a free drink which was good of them. I will NOT be eating there again

We didn't stay over but the food was top class. I had chicken stuffed with haggis on top of mash and carrot and turnip, it was so good. The wife had a brisket sandwich which came with salad and chips, she was very impressed. That and a pint cost less than fifty quid.

Fantastic service , staff are amazing and attentive. The food was stunning and tasty. We had the 2 courses for 2 people for £40 and worth every penny. So good weve already booked to go back for the christmas menu.

I was disappointed on this visit. The barman was lovely but apart from that the customer service was really slow and nobody came back to check all was ok with our meals. I had Brie and cranberry sauce starter but the sauce wasn’t like cranberry at all, it was really thick and gritty - almost like the texture of fig. My garlic bread was solid and had an odd taste. The rest of the meals however were really nice. Despite booking at 7pm it got to 10pm and one friend had to leave before dessert as she had work the next day and the time it was taking to serve we didn’t think we would be finished by 11pm. We had hot chocolates instead and they had run out of squirty cream but to be fair the barman was very apologetic about this and doubled up on the marshmallows. The decor of the place was lovely and the toilets were spotless. The other reviews for this place are really good so hopefully just a one off experience for us.

One of the best English breakfasts my partner and I have had in the UK. As a non-native person, I have naturally never been a big fan of it, but they seem to use high quality ingredients: fresh mushrooms, tasty beans, quite decent sausages. The services is great, too.
