Really lovely place. Originally staying there with sister from Friday 9 June to Monday 12 June 2023. She is disabled but she was hospitalised unfortunately. Arrival was later afternoon but no instructions on meeting Denise and husband. Barking dog in garden at back which was fine. Waited 10 mins on arrival. No one there we thought. Rang big bell. Knocked on door. Rang land line sent email to their phone. No show. Half an hour later a car pulled up and I went out. They were not owners but had a horse there and he said he would check for us as no other entrance for customers. He informed us they were in and said he’d let them know. 10 mins later Denise appeared at door. I explained been waiting a while but she was non committal. Inside beautiful place and showed up to the rooms. Rooms were gorgeous. The garden gorgeous and white of white towels. Very happy start. I explained I was at wedding and would be in late in morning and would that be a problem. I also asked if the dogs barked thru night. No was the ansa they would be settled. Went out to meet wedding guests and had to get lifts. Or taxi as the venue even tho close had a car route that was non pedestrian. I arrived back at b and b about 1:30 am. On arriving the dog was barking and racing around their back garden. I quietly entered the house and behold the dog was at the mutual kitchen door in the house growling and barking at every little tiny creak of the staircase. I did tell it to shut up once not loudly but it still carried on even creeping upstairs. In my room I crept across floorboards and into bathroom and it was still going mad. Anyway got into bed on looking at bed it looked gorgeous all Egyptian cotton so soft. On lying in bed it was really uncomfortable and on checking it was an older type open joined spring mattress instead of individual pocket springs. Next morning I came down to a very frosty husband which I didn’t realise at the time. Breakfast was ok and generous with fruit yogurt and full English. Overcooked. Later when I was upstairs Denise came up and I apologised for making any noise due to the dog. She told me it was defending its territory and I explained what happened. She then said that if I didn’t make noise or say shut up the dog wouldn’t bark. I told her even when I went upstairs to my room on going to my own bathroom it was still barking. I said surely the customer was more important to which she replied that if I didn’t make any noise at all the dog would bark. I said shouldn’t it be the other way round as a customer paying £460 for the weekend. She haughtily replied and said clearly I didn’t like dogs (which actually isn’t the case). Astounded isnt the word. The house is arranged by customers having front of house and owners come thru the kitchen which is private. The dog was left behind the kitchen door so all customers coming in late have a lovely growling aggressive dog to come back to no matter what time. Later I was relaxing in the room when I heard Denise outside the door shuffling around. Ok her property but felt I couldn’t have a private conversation with my phone call to my sister who is very unwell. I then went to the wedding venue and luckily was able to stay on the sofa at my family’s holiday home. This is because I dreaded going back to a barking dog as it would have been late when I got to the b and b and couldn’t bear another show down with the dog behind the kitchen door and another unpleasant atmosphere at breakfast with frosty man. I also stayed at my family’s holiday place next night and only returned to pick up my belongings at 9am on Monday. I’d booked board and breakfast from Friday thru to Monday and I am so disappointed that Denise didn’t at least once contact me to talk it thru. They kept their money. I’m apparently wrong because I didn’t behave properly with their lovely dog. The second room wasn’t touched as sister couldn’t be there and my room occupied so no reason for her to be milling outside my room unless she needed to ask if all ok which she didn’t. Never again.
