1. It's advertised as a property with an elevator. The elevator is not working and will not be working for months. I booked this place specifically because it says it has a lift. I have an injury and I had to climb 75 steps every day up and down 2. The rooms are in bad shape. Beds are broken, tiles are loose in the toilet and kitchen. Fabric is torn on all the sofas. My partner and I couldn't sleep because of how much sound the bed made 3. Hot water is limited. If 2 people are sharing a room you need to space showers to get hot water. 4. It's not even close to 4 starts. I'd give it 2 stars I wish I could add videos I have taken

I was really disappointed with my stay at 196 Bishopsgate. They were happy to accept my American Express to secure the reservation, but then refused to take Amex when it came to paying – completely inconsistent and very inconvenient. On top of that, the lift was out of order again, which seems to be an ongoing issue. For the price, I expected far better reliability and service. Would not stay again. I will not be staying here again.

The room was not proportionate. Big kitchen, small double bed, the window was hide half way from a big cupboard. No amenities. The toilet was very cold. The lift was out of order. And from speaking with regular guests, it is most of the time is out of order, making the higher floors very difficult to reach. Amazing location though!

In late October/early November 2025, we stayed at 196 Bishopsgate for 7 days as part of our month long European holiday. The location was ideal (one could step outside to ride a bus or across the road to ride the tube) to see all of the main tourist sites of London. The staff were excellent and very helpful. We had very good washing, drying and cooking facilities, which were very welcome on a journey where we were living out of suitcases and dining at restaurants and cafes. One minor comment - our apartment could do with a small refurbishment.

We stayed here on our honeymoon and have already booked it for our anniversary. The location is perfect!! Across from the train station, grocery stores, liquor stores and local eateries all very close by. The apartments have kitchens, washers and dryers in the room, which is so much better than having to go out for. The rooms are very spacious and well equipped, so it's so much better than a traditional hotel room. I also cannot say enough about how clean everything is!!!

Rooms looked nothing like any of the photos on line , they’re old and have a horrible smell to them. The bathroom is covered in limescale and the shower didn’t work only used freezing cold water . The windows were dirty and covered in dust and dirt and cobwebs. There’s no security in the building no cameras and our key card worked for every room . The management were rude and unhelpful and when I complained refused to admit anything and ignored my emails . The room didn’t get cleaned when we asked them too and none of the pillow covers had been washed . One of the worst places I’ve ever stayed, your only paying for the location . Travel lodge round the corner is cheaper and much nicer !!!

Had room 301, 2 bedroom apartment. Room: - Cleaning is not done everyday. - No shampoo & conditioner available. - Bed is of harder kind, but otherwise ok comfort. Warm blankets and ok cushions. - Not that fresh looking place. In general not too bad, but small not amazing details (e.g. the shower cannot be turned off completely) - The apartment was pretty cold and we could hear the noise from the street very well. Probably as one of the windows in the livingroom could not be closed completely. Told the receptionist about it, that would take a look at it but nothing changed. - Weird floor plan. Due to the long corridor and not much of open space, it was not too nice. No natural place to take off jackets & shoes etc. - The floor at the whole place looked dirty that we had shoes on most of the time. Slippers recommended if you are planning to stay here. - Outlets with switches and also central switches. Had to push several switches before something worked. On/off not clear. - Doors closing automaticly all the time. Many doors to open all the time, especially as there are so many doors to pass from entrance to the room too. Location: Really great. Many restaurants and cafés nearby. Great connections by public transport. Service: Ok. Not too friendly. Generally, not worth the price. Better to choose two rooms at another hotel nearby.

Do NOT stay here if you are sensitive to mold or mildew - I couldn't stop coughing and had to immediately check out and find another hotel after a long flight. I will add that the location is great - Spitafields is a fun area and great access to the Tube. However, this place is no where near a 4 star stay - even without the mildew smell. It is a budget, 2 star at best.
