  1. L & G - Eats ★★☆☆☆

We visited Furnace for an evening meal and unfortunately our most recent visit was far below expectations. We are cutting the waiters some slack as there were clearly a lot of tables booked for graduations and the staff seemed very over run, but this should have been compensated for with more staff. The positives are unfortunately quite a small list. We had the Korean fried chicken and the houmous for starter, both of which were beautifully presented and tasted amazing! Also, our waiter was very friendly and polite despite the poor service errors. And that is where the positives end. The bar in the next room provides the music, which is more of a thumping bass you’d expect at a nightclub than restaurant music, topped with everyone shouting so that people can hear each other speak. We ordered a bottle of wine for the table which arrived in an ice bucket as expected. The bucket was left on the far side of the table way out of reach, with the dripping wet bottle plonked in the middle of the table for us, before the waitress walked away. Bottle unopened, no first glass poured or a taste, we wiped the soaking table down ourselves and moved the ice bucket within reach, so quite poor service there. Our mains were very disappointing. We ordered the beef skewer with fries and the salmon skewer with rice. The mains arrived before the starter had been cleared away, so the waiter put the mains down to clear our starters, and said he’d grab us some clean cutlery. After a few minutes staring at our mains and finger picking at the already cold chips, I went to grab some spare cutlery from another table as the waiter hadn’t returned, and never did return. The mains were served on metal trays which I’d never seen at this restaurant before, which gave it more of a street food vibe. Compared to some previous visits to Furnace, we were surprised at this, dishes have been much better presented in the past. When ordering, we weren't asked how we would like the beef to be cooked, and wouldn’t expect to be asked either considering it’s a skewer and not a steak. But the beef was completely rare / raw (see photographs). I would have complained, but the restaurant was far too busy and I doubt I'd have been served another main course before my partner had eaten hers. I would usually order a steak cooked medium-rare anyway, so I did eat around a third of the meat that were slightly more cooked, but even some parts for me were far too rare. My partner, who usually orders steak medium-well, would not have been able to eat any of it, as it was all far too rare. There was no check back from a waiter after being served our food to point this out, and when the waiter cleared our plates which were only half eaten, we weren’t asked if there was anything wrong, despite it being quite evident that we did not enjoy our meals. I don’t think we will return here after that experience, the restaurant was lovely when it first opened but we were very disappointed with our most recent visit.

First time going and I will say it was lovely. Great selection of amazing foods & wine. The staff are all lovely and the chef really knows how to cook! The atmosphere was incredibly chill and homely and felt welcome as soon as we walked in. Will definitely be going again to try the rest of the menu selection. Thank you for such a wonderful night guys!

Very good looking restaurant. It's a nice place but the food is a bit different and querky. It has some vegan and vegetarian options, but the menu is a bit small so it could be made bigger. The cocktails are also a bit different. It was nice but just feel like there could be more options and also maybe more staff around. The brunch however is stunning I love that you get to pick 5 different things it's beautiful

Great place. It is pretty big so needs a fairly decent crowd to fill it & give it a bit of atmosphere, although the staff did a pretty good job with that. Great interior. Too cold to sit on the terrace but that would be great on a warmer evening although they do have heaters!

Loved our first visit! Waitress really friendly! Food beautiful! Lovely terrace area for a drink. We are looking forward to going back again this weekend. Only tiny bit of feedback for improvement. On the drinks menu there are no draft lagers listed so i assumed there were only bottles. I asked the waitress and she said there were 4 draft lagers available. Be better to have them listed.

Food was lovely, reasonably priced and very worth the money. Had the crispy chicken burger which came with the gravy with buffalo ranch dip, keep raving about the dip. Service was very good and server was friendly and helpful.

Absolutely great bar and restaurant this. Super friendly staff, great food, good beer. It's got a good position in town tho there's not much else going on there at the moment. Parking is easy if you need it at the NCP 1min walk away. Great outdoor seating in the summer too. They've done some minor menu changes after a few months which helps the menu stay fresh.

It has taken us forever to get a booking here, its a very popular destination in the heart of Sheffield. I was a little shocked when first entering with how basic the place was but it had a great atmosphere once it filled up a little, although I did think the tables a little close together. The staff were great but the drinks took ages to arrive which was dissapointing for the four of us. The food is cool but choose wisely for the portion sizing ...... the fishcake was great and filling but the Yorkshire Tea and Smoked Mackeral, although tasty was a little dissapoining on the size and presentation. We had the Grilled Chicken & Chorizo Kebab (amazing), Roast Lamb, Scallops and cod with sides of sweetcorn (again amazing) mash and properly seasoned chips. The wine is reasonably priced per bottle and the cocktails look amazing but I'm not sure how much alcohol they have in them as we questioned this. The prices are really good and we will revisit soon.
