   Faced with the daunting prospect of selling my late brother in law's and sister's very dilapidated house , I approached three firms of estate agents. Each had very different views on approach and values. It was immediately apparent at my meeting with Savills that David Bloomfield and the Loughton team had taken time to do some impressive preliminary homework. David had researched the size of the plot and prepared comparisons with other properties in the area. He was able also to give an informed view regarding possible development consent (unlikely!). This was the objective realistic advice I wanted. Once the house was in a condition where it could be viewed, David organised a well attended open day. This resulted in several offers. With the grant of probate still some way off, I followed his recommendation of not getting into a 'chain' (where participants were likely to get fed up with waiting) but selecting the buyers who had the resources to renovate the house (which they loved) without depending on selling their own property. The strategy worked. I exchanged contracts today with the buyer and completion will be at the end of the week! I'm very pleased with the help and advice I've received from Savills. It echoes the professionalism I had from Savills when my husband and I managed to sell our London house during the peak of COVID. For most people, selling a house is probably the biggest contract they'll ever embark on. Getting the right advice is crucial!
