We visited for the Christmas lights show on the Saturday before Christmas and we're extremely disappointed. There were a few lovely lights (shown in my photos) but they were sparse and very few. It seemed as if it had not been choreographed in any way at all. There were big areas between lights, some of which were so dark it wasn't really safe to walk what with the ground being slippery with mud and puddles. There were very few animals to see at night either. When we arrived there was no one even on the door checking tickets! The staff seemed bored and started packing up and turning things off and hour before closing time. You honestly could walk around all of it in 15 minutes at a slow pace with a toddler. I have visited with my child during the day to see the zoo in it's usual way and there are some nice parts such as the lemur enclosure and if you go in the summer holiday/when they have special events it adds something to the experience. However, it could really benefit from some more bigger enclosures and some better flooring/paving to reduce the muddiness and more choice of food. Losing the butterflies has really impacted the overall enjoyment of the place. I have only returned because I bought an annual pass (not having visited since it changed from Tropical Wings) otherwise I would only have visited the once.

Took my girlfriend to the monkey experience, and it was amazing. The keeper was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable and the monkeys clearly had a lot of trust in her. The animals and enclosures were clean and well looked after, plus when they said its a 30 minute experience they meant it. There wasn't a 15 minute health and safety breif which eats into your time! I wonder when this was, oh really? Would you like to do that? Overall a fantastic experience from start to finish.

Great little Zoo, with a good choice of animals, my personal favourite were the penguins. Going midweek, there were plenty of parents/grandparents with toddlers, who all seemed to be having fun. There's an outdoor play area and a small indoor play area and cafe, and also a restaurant/cafe. There were outside eating areas but they were all closed on the day of our visit. Plenty of parking. We were there 2 hours.

Love coming here . Tickets are a lot cheaper compared to bigger zoos like Colchester . Got an annual zoo pass which is great value for money. They are expanding and improving the zoo all the time. A lovely new cafe has been built with lovely interior. The bird of prey displays are amazing and I love going to all the animal talks they do. Keepers are very friendly and knowledgeable. Not too busy and very peaceful to walk around the place . Lovely collection of animals to see:

We used to come here when it was formerly Tropical Wings. The butterfly house has gone, but the Caimans that have replaced it mostly make up for it. Admission is reasonable, £17 for an adult and £15 for a child. There is plenty of parking available. Avoid the cafe in the soft play area just inside the entrance and instead head to the new restaurant. The coffee is not instant for a start! Plenty of places to have a picnic here too. Nice not to feel like bringing your own food is frowned upon! Lots of interesting animals here including Zebras, Flamingos, Owls, Wallabies etc. Plenty to keep kids entertained.

What an amazing day out! My son was bought a meet the meerkat experience for his birthday and in his words was "one of the best days of his life." The staff members were brilliant, all happy to talk and answer questions. I visited Call of the Wild when it first reopened and the time, money and effort that has gone in to renewing the zoo and enclosures is absolutely amazing. I would 100% recommend a visit here. As a family, we visit alot of zoos and farm parks, but this by far is one of the best. The facilities were also great, lovely hot chocolate and sausage rolls too!

Loved it! Really beautiful butterfly house with tropical birds too. Very immersive and good for all ages. Indoor and outdoor exhibits so good for various weather conditions. We were very fortunate with the timing of our visit to the butterfly house as we got to see a butterfly emerging from it's chrysalis. Very educational.

What a wonderful place... we took our 2 boys there just before it closed, so was over the moon when we found out it had reopened. My son took lots of pictures and had a ball. Awesome day out with so much to see and do. It's had a great face-lift with lots of new enclosures and extremely passionate staff. Will defo take the family again!

Absolutely loved our day at Call of the wild zoo yesterday. We visited for our daughters 3rd birthday and everyone had a great time! There is a great variety of animals and the staff are all very friendly and knowledgeable. The food in the snack shack is very tasty and reasonably priced. We loved walking through the tropical House and seeing how much everything has changed from the former tropical wings site. This is a lovely zoo and it is really worth a visit. We will definitely return again soon!

Really lovely little zoo. Arrived at around 10:30 and we took our time going round seeing all of the animals. The full experience took us around 4 hours, and that included a 30 min bird show and a 45 min break for drinks and ice creams, so it’s definitely not a whole-day activity but it was lovely all the same. The bird show was short and sweet as only one of the birds successfully flew anywhere, and the goat they brought out just kinda ran around whilst they chased her. We then got an iced coffee from the tuck shop, and whilst they were lovely, they costed £4.15 each!! Pretty steep in my opinion. The zoo itself was lovely and we got to see almost all of the animals during our visit (excluding the monkeys as they were coned off). The little gift shop had a nice selection of animal-themed items and toys.
