Loved it here today. Parking is a bit tricky but we found a space on the road. Nice walks with a beautiful river/stream. Nice for the gigs to paddle and splash. Be careful about broken glass it was all over, unfortunately (I collected loads because I was scared kids would cut their feet). The water is crystal clear, we also saw a crayfish!
Beautiful location for a short or long walk depending your mood, so much to explore and see, we were here for a good few hours and saw interesting wildlife, bridges, weirs, remains of old buildings, cafe near the playground with public toilets next door
Beautiful walk, first time I’ve ever been :) Nice little cafe, toilets are clean, parks decent for kiddies!
Walked from the Paddling Pools to Rails Road & back, just under 5 miles round trip. Quality trail path up to the Rivelin chair sculpture. The path becomes rougher going towards the Rails Road end. No toilets at Rails Road car park. I counted 3 sets of stepping stones across the river to navigate depending what path you choose. The trail is a nice mix of industrial history & the natural, only spoilt on my particular walk by the odd noisy vehicle on the nearby road.
Grand place for a walk. A few history spots to learn a little of mills and water wheels that were once there such as Holme head wheel, Hind wheel etc. Quite beautiful and serene, so take in as you follow the trek.
One of my favourite close to Sheffield areas. Not a lot of parking spaces a available in the small amount of car parks. Not a bad thing really as it keeps the amount of rubbish left by visitors down. Plenty of paths both in the reserve and surrounding area. Great at night time, where if you sit quietly you can see, deer, foxes, badgers and wild cats going about their nightly tasks. It does get busy here at the weekends but weekdays is quieter and if you follow the old Rivellin road to its end you have the moors and solitude usually.
Amazing riverside walk and a history lesson all at the same time. Step back to the days of water-powered forges and mills all signposted along the trail. Can get a bit muddy but it was OK today. Stepping stone crossings were only passable if you had wellys today. Stop at the Rivelin Valley café for a take-out and let the kids loose in the playground. A fabulous way to spend 3 to 4 hours and take some exercise too.
