5 stars always, consistently one of the top 5 places in Edinburgh for value, quality of the food and service. Great value. You just have to walnut pudding. We go often because it’s brilliant.
What a cute and cozy restaurant! We really enjoyed our 3 course meal and have to mention how incredible the sourdough bread was hot out of the oven. Service was great and our server was extremely attentive and wonderful.
Lovely little neighbourhood restaurant! Quaint ambiance and very no frills, delicious operation! We got the beef shin spring roll (life changing), and orzo to start, and the mushroom and spinash dish and the fish main. Everything was really lovely and the desserts were great as well! Would recommend for a quiet dinner.
Marvelous experience. They just switched over to their seasonal winter menu, and everything was delicious. This bistro provided a special way to get a taste of Edinburgh area cuisine The 3 course locally sourced tasting menu turned into a 5 course with an on the house appetizer and after-dessert pastry. Best part was that we felt like the only travelers there. Everyone else were locals
My husband & I received a recommendation from our Airbnb host to eat here. Big compliments to the chef(s)! What a delightful dining experience. It’s a quaint and minimalistic bistro, and it feels quite intimate. We went with 2 courses, starting with the haggis canapé, then the salmon tartlet and lettuce as our starters. For our mains, the chicken and fish. I had a nice glass of Austrian Riesling. I was very pleased and even more so with the price, especially for such quality food. I will absolutely be returning when I’m back in Edinburgh.
We had a delicious dinner with the roquefort starter & ravioli, followed by the fish (sea bass) & chicken, then the "walnut whip" & affogato for dessert. I would have enjoyed a few more veg with my main. Our third diner was later than expected and the staff were very accommodating in preparing & serving the main entirely out of sync. The food is excellent but the portions aren't large (which was perfect for us). There aren't that many tables so make sure you reserve. The only tiny point for improvement is that the acoustics are less than perfect when the restaurant gets more crowded.
Delicious food. Great service. The menu is limited, but you won't be disappointed. I will definitely return. Critical point: It can get loud! The space is small, so with two large parties (6 & 8) on a Friday night, there was a lot of shouting. The staff apologized without a comment from us. It's a place to be merry! But if you want a chill dinner experience, maybe try a weekday or an earlier time before the olds get themselves sloshed.
Been meaning to try this place again for a while after enjoying a Christmas lunch at Walnut a few years ago. Really enjoyable experience from start to finish, was just the right level of busy for a pleasant atmosphere. Good background music, staff are friendly and attentive. Relaxing minimalist decor with a clean and spacious restroom. The menu is very limited but it actually felt nice to not be overwhelmed by choice- and all the available options sounded delicious. We had the three course lunch and were not disappointed once with any of our choices, the food was utterly sublime! I especially loved the fig tartan with pecan ice-cream, such a warming spicy and sweet treat. What a wonderful midweek piece of decadence.
Ok easily the best meal I’ve eaten in months.. that includes many places in London.. the host Christopher was super charming, the food was beautiful, delicious, surprising, filling, elegant and well priced. The ambience is quaint and comfortable and not snobby or rundown. This place is an easy 5/5 and I wouldn’t come to Edinburgh without stopping here. It’s a MUST.
A true hidden gem for Edinburgh diners. The lunch menu is amazing value. Can't fault the food. Every dish was Excellent! Service was on point. Really great hosts that went the extra mile to make you feel welcome and valued. Note to self - go here more often...
