We went to Toranj for a meal before going to the Edinburgh Playhouse. We discovered this restaurant through a google search of middle eastern restaurants nearby. Although the restaurant is in the basement, it is easy to find. The staircase down is decorated with flowers, a bit much for some perhaps but would make for good photos of a girls trip for example. The hosts are incredibly kind and show what Persian hospitality is all about. They are very happy to give recommendations. The food arrives in a decent amount of time. Itβs really flavourful and the dolmeh (warm starter) were particularly good. The shawarma was good but nothing special, it comes in a wrap with a lot of side salad. The highlight of our visit was the Baklava and we would definitely recommend having some. They alone deserve the 5 stars. Itβs homemade and the chef was understandably very proud of them. They are a good size and fit perfectly to some after dinner chai. The restaurant is also clean and the entire room smells incredible and full of spices. The kebabs and stews served around us looked delicious. We loved this dinner and will certainly return.

We went for dinner and we have ordered Sheshlek kabbab, Kabbab with Saffron rice, Sheshlek Shawarma wrap, Turkish coffee, tee and Baklava. - The food is beyond amazing, it tastes really really good, for me it's the 1st among Edinburgh restaurants. - Degree of doneness is perfect. - Food temperature is perfect. - The waiters were very friendly and helpful. The only two thing that I can see an area of improvements for is: - Bakalwa needs to be improved. - we requested two dishes to be taken away, however they brought us the containers and ask us to do it ourselves, which is really considered as disrespectful. I would definitely come back again.

Toranj Restaurant is an absolute delight! As you descend the stairs, you're greeted by a breathtaking display of vibrant flowers. The customer service is impeccable, and the food quality is outstanding. We had the pleasure of sitting in their cozy yard, adding to the overall charm of the experience. Highly recommended for a memorable dining experience!

Great little place. The service was friendly and welcoming. The man who looked after my table couldn't do enough for us. The starters were lovely and great for sharing. I had a kebab for my main, the chicken was well cooked and good quality. It wasn't well seasoned and so it tasted like plain chicken. It came with rice and salad. I would return as there were a few things I wanted to try and as I said the service was great. I marked the atmosphere down as there was a big party next to us and they were quite rowdy. With the restaurant being small there's no getting away from the noisy people.

An unassuming Persian restaurant in perfect territory for a trip to the Playhouse. It was spotless inside with very attentive service, and a menu that'd please all. Meat cookery was a definite strength and the baba ganoush was excellent. Other plus points were it is BYOB and has relaxing outside space

Went for tea and shisha, ended up staying for late lunch. Had the large meze, bamia (okra) dip and a mixed grill for two - which came with salad and rice too. The meze options were very tasty, slight twist to middle eastern dishes I'm used to in the UK. The naan bread really stood out and the chicken wings in the grill were probably the highlight from the meat options - despite the very tender kebab. Note: the place is underground so accessibility for some people may be an issue. Good and quick service, I'd visit the place again.

Absolutely delicious. We had the hummus and halumi starters. The nan was superb, so light and crispy. We shared a kebab plate for four with rice and nan. All the meats were delicious. We left stuffed. The service was fantastic as well. Such lovely people.
