If you’re looking for modern, innovative, and delicious Thai-fusion dishes, this is the place! We had three “small plates”: corn ribs, beef tartare, and pork belly papaya salad. All three were amazing. And then one “share size”: crab curry with rice noodles. It didn’t have the best texture but was really tasty (be sure to use the basil leaves and lime). The only misstep was the milk buns that they gave us for free with the crab curry; not the best. We also had two cocktails and both were great. Really wish we had 4 people so we could do the 12-course sharing menu! Our server was very attentive and took time to find out what dishes had ingredients we needed to avoid. Overall, highly recommend.

Came here to celebrate a birthday and could not have asked for better service. Staff were so attentive and helpful throughout our meal. Even before arriving and trying to booka table, staff were keeping us well informed and communication was always easy. The food was absolutely lovely. It often took me by surprise because you wouldn't expect to enjoy a corn rib or half a cabbage as much as I did at Ka Pao. I loved everything but if I had to pick a favourite dish it would be the seafood crackers. Well worth a try coming here

We had a brilliant meal at Ka Pao. The cocktails were excellent — the Coco Kwai was beautifully balanced and refreshing, and the Old Fashioned packed a proper punch (though we didn’t really catch the pandan flavor, it was still delicious). For starters, we tried the vegan corn ribs and patron peppers — both full of flavor and perfectly cooked. The mains were just as impressive: the hospital cabbage and gaeng garee curry were bursting with spice and depth, and the strip-fried broccoli made a great side. Every dish was vibrant and well thought out, and the service was friendly and attentive throughout. We’ll definitely be back!

It was my first time to eat here. My daughter already warned me that they ate here before and although the food were good, the fried chicken was far too sweet for them. I still wanted to try so I ordered the lunch menu which consists of corn ribs, beef pad kra pao, cucumber salad and rice. The corn ribs were, as everyone mentioned, a fabulous choice. Really tasty. I'd definitely order this again if I ever come back. The cucumber salad was quite nice too. Fresh with a nice lime flavour and spice. Unfortunately, the beef was very salty. Couldn't taste anything due to the saltiness. I was thinking of returning it but I havent eaten anything all day and it was already around 4pm by this time so I decided to just eat it. To manage the saltiness, I ate it with cucumber. I told them about this when I was getting my bill and waitress mentioned its probably because they use both oyster sauce and fish sauce. Informed her I cook with these ingredients everyday as I'm asian. Based on the colour of the beef which was really dark, i would guess they put too much soy. They need to taste their food before serving. It shouldnt leave the kitchen if its this salty. I had a lot of unfinished food, so they can certainly check the saltiness. I was ready to leave and pay my bill when they offered me a free dessert. I was actually messaging my daughter at this time saying that I need to visit Haute Dolci next to get some desserts to take the saltiness away. So I accepted this gesture. Desert was a nice chocolate mousse. Too much for me to eat but the gesture was much appreciated.

Stumbled upon this gem last night. Had the most delicious dinner on our last night in Edinburgh. Ka Pao is a hidden gem in St James square. The food is tapas style small plates shareable. You need to order 2-3 dishes per person. The dishes All had such descriptive names, we really enjoyed trying them all. My favorite was the spicy vegetarian curry, it was truly amazing . Every other dish was equally good . The corn with the coconut and shrimp flakes was so unique and delicious. Pardon peppers 10/10. Don't miss this amazing spot. Food, vibes and service 10/10. Highly recommend

The Ka Pao is a restaurant features south eastern Asian cuisine. The dishes served are a bit unusual (at least to me which made me interested in visiting) and the choice is not extensive - which is a good sign that the quality will be good. You can opt to have several smaller dishes rather than the convention of having a starter and main meal. This gives the chance of trying more dishes - I recommend this. It is in the St James Centre but its location is tucked away and easily passed by but is worth the effort of seeking it out. Staff are friendly and keen to explain the composition of the dishes and recommend combinations.

They say do not judge a book by its cover. I passed by this restaurant many times and never thought of going in. It was the last one we tried in St James Square, and realised it was the best food experience we had in that center. The menu they offer is unique, a clever mix of spices, peanuts is evident in most of their dishes. And almost every plate is delicious (I tried them all). I recommend the OX Tongue for meat lovers, and the corn ribs are a must. The food is of fine dining quality for a reasonable price. The waiters are professional and very friendly. I cannot recommend this place enough.

The food was great. Deep fried oyster mushrooms were so lovely and the sauce was nice. The cauliflower curry was very tasty as well and very suitable for rice. The most stunning dish for me was the mango sorbet. The portion was big and it costs only 4 quid. The taste was amazing as well. You can feel mango and lime flavour balanced in the mouth. Highly recommend this restaurant. They have a moderate number of vegan dishes as well.

The building is in the new St James Quarter, which is a really nice location as it is right in town and everything is very new and exciting round there. The inside of the restaurant is beautiful and stylish, and has a really nice atmosphere. The staff are extremely polite and tentative and offer to hang up coats, constantly getting water and offering advice on dishes. The food is reasonably priced with some interesting things to try (highly recommend the oyster). Portion sizes were much bigger than I had expected which was a lovely surprise. The quality of the food, however, really let this place down. It was extremely salty, and while there were some really nice, interesting dishes, I was so thirsty from the high salt content. It really just felt like your bang average corner Chinese takeaway. Some people like this and that’s fine if you do, but I felt like with the staff being so friendly and the place oozing class and style, I was going to be in for some fabulous food. Unfortunately, I was quite disappointed :(.

Had lunch with my daughter here today and loved every mouthful. Great selection of foods to try. Fried chicken a must have and fresh vegetables and dip delicious. In fact everything was simply divine. If you don't normally do desserts, you must here. The panacotta and fresh fruit will be dragging me back again. Staff couldn't be more helpful and attentive and happy.
