Wanted to have a nice Scottish breakfast in Edinburgh and Luckenbooths didn’t disappoint! Excellent service from Bohday. The serving is huge. Nice ambience. What a great way to start your first day in Edinburgh!
Recently visited as a group of 8 ordering from their Christmas menu. We were seated upstairs which was quieter than downstairs. The overall ambience of the restaurant was nice and was tactfully decorated for the Festive period. I’d personally ordered the pork belly, turkey dinner and chocolate brownie from the Christmas set menu. The food was great - pork belly as the starter was extremely tender and melt in the mouth. I was surprised at the size of the turkey dinner (in a good way) as you often get stung with a festive menu, however, this was a great portion size and overall cooked extremely well. Only slight gripe, and again this is a personal taste, but I felt the turkey was slightly on the dry side, as the outer layer of it was a bit brown and could have been done with a little less time - the rest of the plate was cooked perfectly with the pigs in blankets being especially nice (who doesn’t love them?!). The chocolate brownie looked and tasted more like a chocolate fudge cake, but was still nice and none of it left. The general feedback from what others had from the menu was also positive, everyone enjoyed their meal. What knocked this down from a 5 star review was having to wait quite a while for certain drink orders throughout the meal. Quite often a 10/15 minute wait and on two occasions had to remind the wait staff we’d ordered. The staff were generally lovely, but waiting an extended period of time on drinks throughout a meal isn’t ideal. Would recommended the place and will certainly be back.
This was a last minute, we are hungry, get out of our way kind of stop. But you know what? This was really good. We had our first experience with haggis I liked it a lot. , and everything was really good. We all also had an old fashioned with Scotch whiskey. Really nice!
Amazing meal with fabulous presentation. We devoured it so we only have photos of dessert. the “BEST Sticky toffee pudding in Carmel sauce” she’s ever had! The lamb was tasty in a delicious sauce as was the pork tenderloin.
What can I say — their lunch menu is amazing! My kids ask to go there every day. Their favorite is the smoked salmon with brioche, which they absolutely love. We visited during the Fringe festival, great found.
Lovely place for food on the Royal Mile opposite St Giles cathedral. We visited for lunch, and the menu has a range of options for big and small appetites without overwhelming you. Service was excellent with pleasant staff, with food and drinks served promptly after ordering. We had fish and chips which had a nice battered fish with succulent flakes of white fish cooked just right. My companion had the haggis and neeps pie topped with mashed potatoes, which was full of flavour. The premises are pleasant and were redeveloped recently to a high standard.
I came in for a breakfast around 9am choosing the full Scottish. Good selection on the plate and they switched the sourdough toast for me and instead of just dumping a roll on my plate it came toasted and buttered. Perfect. Price is what it is for the centre mile of Edinburgh but good quality for this price. Modern, quality feel but still felt cosy with views to St Giles.
Excellent service from genuinely warm and friendly staff. They were super friendly with our 15 month old babe. We had Haggis pie and it was delicious. Good high chair and nice decoration. We had such a fantastic experience in there, highly recommend it!
Excellent food and service. The meals were presented beautifully and the staff took extra care regarding my food allergies which was much appreciated. Loved it! Would definitely dine again and highly recommend it for the Cullen skink, salmon, and many other Scottish specialty dishes.
On our last night in Edinburgh, we wanted good food, and nothing fried from a pub. Boy did Luckenbooths deliver. We both had the lamb and absolutely loved it. Service was great, they squeezed us in while they were actually fully booked and they let us eat in peace (no pushing us out the door). We returned for breakfast the next morning, which was also delicious. Highly recommended!
