When visiting popular destinations, it’s easy to feel swept along on a conveyor belt of tourists. Shuffling through crowds, glancing at the sights, and moving on. For my family’s first trip to London, I was determined to avoid that experience while still seeing the classics. So, we asked Mike if he would spend an entire day showing us the city. He agree and he absolutely exceeded every expectation. Mike guided us through some of London’s busiest landmarks with ease, drawing from a deep well of knowledge that kept us captivated and brought each place to life. For example, as we approached the Tower of London, we would have simply admired the exterior on our own. Instead, Mike pointed out where lions were once kept (and why) and showed us the exact spot where Anne Boleyn and other notable prisoners were brought by boat for their trials. His storytelling transformed what would have been a quick walk-by into a vivid window into history. After exploring the Tower, we set off again, with Mike tailoring the rest of the day to each of our interests. Harry Potter, World War II history, architecture, hidden corners of the city, and more. It wasn’t until days later, when I looked at a map and traced our route, that I fully realized just how much ground we had covered. We never could have done it on our own. And everywhere we went, Mike had a story to tell and something special to point out. He even joined us for lunch and kindly let me pepper him with questions about his life. Starting our vacation with a full day guided by Mike was one of the best decisions we made. My only regret is not taking him up on his offer for a day trip to Windsor. If we’re ever lucky enough to return to England, that’s a mistake we’ll definitely fix.

We are back home after an amazing week in London and already recommending Mike as a tour guide to our friends for their next trip. He was endlessly patient with our kids and had a wealth of knowledge to share. We’d book him again in a heartbeat.

We had the pleasure of Mike's guidance for two days in May 2025. We were able to customize our tours to include everything we wanted to see. Mike was also very helpful in offering additional suggestions, not just for our time with him, but also for time on our own. The first day we traveled to Windsor from London to see the castle and surrounding town. Mike provided us with very detailed instructions on which train and times to take to meet up with him. He lives in Windsor. He even emailed me pictures of how to tap and go to pay by credit card. Our second day Mike traveled to London and met us in our hotel lobby. We were able to accomplish so much more in one day than if we had tried it on our own. We saw Westminster Abbey, St Pauls Cathedral, and the Tower of London. Enroute Mike pointed out so many other things and provided details about buildings, landmarks, and people of significance that we would not have known if doing it on our own. Mike is very personable and knowledgeable. Having Mike as our own (two of us) private tour guide was so much better than even a small group tour. You can correspond with him during your trip planning and he will assist with the details. If your budget allows, I would highly recommend this approach and Mike is the BEST!

Our family had a lovely tour of Hampton Court this week, guided by Mike Armitage. Mike was interesting, entertaining, and amusing throughout. He greatly enhanced our experience with his knowledge and his witty commentary. We also found him thoughtful and patient in accommodating our disabled son so that he could fully enjoy the afternoon too. We highly recommend Mike and hope to see him again for another future tour!

We were a group of four adults who spent a lovely day with Mike Armitage as he guided us through sites in London. Highlights included the Churchill War Rooms, the Tower of London and the changing of the guard. We walked the streets and parks, took a ride on the tube and a boat ride on the Thames. We stopped for lunch at a pub and had great conversation about culture and politics (always fun!) Along the way, we were delighted with many interesting tidbits and sites— such as the site of Ringo Starr’s first marriage, a schoolhouse that survived the blitz, a wine merchant still in business that dates back to the 1690’s, movie locations and St. James’s palace dating back to King Henry VIII. We would have never had this perspective wandering around London on our own. Such a worthwhile investment. Mike was just fabulous.

If you're looking for a guide to show you London, especially historical sites, you can NOT do better than Mike Armitage!! He is a consumate gentleman, together with a walking encyclopedia of all things London, but especially history, (which is what I wanted). I particularly appreciate that he is entirely flexible and tailors the tour to what I'm most interested in seeing, and is wholeheartedly invested in my getting the very best experience possible. Aside from his professionalism, pleasant demeanor, and endless knowledge of London, he is an absolute pleasure to be with. Highly, highly recommended!

Recently visited the Tower of London with Mike as our guide and had an excellent day. Mike is friendly, knowledgeable and nothing was too much trouble as he explained the history surrounding the Tower over centuries past. An interesting and informative day out and I would recommend Mike to anyone who is visiting London and looking for a great day out. Thanks Mike, hope to see you again soon.

I went on Mike's amazing Zeppelin walk a few days ago and was completely entranced! It was a topic I thought I knew quite a lot about so I was astonished and delighted at how much I learnt that evening. There wasn't any question Mike didn't know the answer to. On top of all the First World War stuff we were treated to lots of historical goodies from other time periods too - it was like getting several free walks thrown in alongside the one we'd come for! Thoroughly to be recommended to everyone.
