   Probably the best bar in Edinburgh. The most knowledgeable barman out there, gave us a proper lesson on a wide variety of single malts and spent a decent amount of time chatting to everyone at the bar. Massive range of quality whiskies, made to feel like we were round a mate's house for a chat, everything you could want in a pub. 10/10, would highly recommend.

   A proper, local pub within spitting distance of the Royal Mile, you say? Is there such a thing, or are they all tourist traps? Yes. I give you The Waverley. It was a quiet, rather wet Saturday afternoon, early doors. We decided to sit in (when though there are some tables outside, too), at the bar, and spoke to the most fantastic barman. In fact, he gave us (food and drink) recommendations that were to shape the rest of the evening and following day, during our weekend in Edinburgh. The Waverley is indeed a local pub. But tourists are of course welcome. Quiz, whiskey tasting, Billy Connelly comedy playing in the loo (he performed here, back in the 70s). Eclectically decorated. What more could you want?!

   A gorgeous and quiet bar with exceptionally kind staff who were happy to walk us through their wine and whisky lists. A great spot to try some local whisky and a nice range of wines, with some great food too. Would really recommend stopping by and asking lots about the menus. We learned a lot about the local distilleries and the history behind various whiskies. The staff were lovely!

   We went there for whiskey tasting. Tried four of those - in the pictures. I liked the second one. I have tried a lot of whiskeys before and I wasn’t that amazed by the whiskey tastings here. We had mixed opinion across the group.
