Lovely scenery and a short walk. It is one almost straight line so you will have to turn round and walk back the same way you came. It is great for anyone looking for a nice quick stroll for around an hour to an hour and a half only reason for the 4 starts is the smell around a small section of the trail other than that can’t fault it.

Boresdane Wood is an area of ancient woodland situated on the Wigan/Bolton border. Ancient semi-natural woodland believed to be over 400 years old with broad leaf trees such as oak, ash, and sycamore and home for a variety of wildlife. As I stated on my previous visit, the best parking is at the bottom of Hindley Mill Lane where the path takes you straight into the woodland park. I was last there in Spring last year and I thought it would be good to revisit in summer. So, here I am revisiting - in Autumn!!! Oh well, perhaps get in right next year! Autumn here has an appeal of its own, lots of colours, lots to photograph and a general air of tranquility. Not a walk to rush, but to take your time and absorb the atmosphere. No special equipment is needed here but good footwear will get you through the occasional boggy patch. Plenty of side paths to explore and lots of benches to sit and watch. This is an excellent dog walking spot and there are always lots of dogs along the path. An out-and-back route, not hard to navigate at all but watch out for the fairies. Lots of them live here! Fairies in Wigan! Who knew???

What a fantastic place to visit when there's bluebells garlic flowers and fresh green leaves. It has an abundance of bird life . So happy to have seen dippers on the stream . The sound of running water and bird song made it extra special. You access it from Danes avenue where there is ample parking . It's signposted as Rayner park . Walk up the avenue to the top where you will see a cemetery . Turn left and head towards the tunnels. It's a Mecca for dog walkers and nature lovers as well as hikers. You can walk all the way to Aspull.

A genuine piece of ancient woodland, going back to the Doomsday Book, carefully nurtured and looked after by an enthusiastic friends group. Litter noticeably abscent ,sometimes dogs can be a problem when owners let them roam off lead. A lot of flora and fauna with some hidden gems if you know what you are looking at and where you are looking.. Pubs at either end if you walk the route out and back as a linear walk.2 pubs on route Castle on the Hill, Hindley and Gerrard Arms Aspull about half a mile after exiting from the Aspull end. The walk is just over 2 miles one way and suitable for prams and wheelchair access. There are a few gradients on route particularly over the footbridge at the Aspull entrance, also be aware that if there has been a lot of rain and in Autumn/Winter the path will become muddy. Recently been awarded as part of a nationwide network of ancient woodlands to be dedicated to her majesty the Queen in celebration of the Platinum Jubilee. The Queen's Green Canopy. Low Hall Local Nature reserve on Liverpool Road, Hindley has also been gifted 120 fruit trees as part of the celebration. Please check Low Hall out as well ,it's a hidden gem of a reserve.
