Excellent gym with a great atmosphere. The classes are a real highlight — Nu-Rox with Stewart is hands down the best. The PTs, especially Abdullah and Bob, are always friendly, supportive, and genuinely want you to do well. Facilities are clean and well maintained, and the pool and sauna are perfect post-workout. Highly recommend!!

We recently joined Nuffield Health Chesser Edinburgh, and at first, the experience was very positive. When we signed up, both the lady at reception and the instructor were welcoming, professional, and friendly. The lady clearly explained everything and confirmed that two adults would be fine for family swimming time with our children (ages 10, 10, 9, 8, and 3). Her customer service was excellent — approachable, kind, and genuinely helpful — which gave us confidence in bringing the children the next day. When we arrived for family swim time the following day, the gentleman at reception was also polite and helpful. However, the situation changed once we reached the pool. The lifeguard on duty approached in a way that felt unnecessarily condescending and unwelcoming. I completely understand and respect the importance of pool safety — that’s never in question — but it was more about how he spoke to us. His tone made me and my family feel uncomfortable and singled out. When he asked how many adults were present, I explained there were two (as advised by the staff the previous evening). He insisted we needed three, but instead of explaining calmly, it felt like he was interrogating me — repeatedly asking what time we had come before, and questioning our explanation. It became awkward and tense, especially with my children watching. I felt judged, misunderstood, and honestly, disrespected. Later, without consulting me, they decided to test whether the children were capable of swimming independently. While I didn’t mind the idea itself, I think it would have been more professional to explain it to me directly first. The lady who handled it was polite and reassuring, but the original lifeguard continued to give off a very cold, almost hostile attitude — staring, frowning, and making us feel very unwelcome. A third lifeguard later told us off for splashing (which we immediately apologised for), but again, there was no warmth, understanding, or acknowledgment. It felt as though we were being watched and judged throughout what was supposed to be family time. Overall, this experience left us feeling deeply uncomfortable and disappointed. The front desk staff and one of the female team members were excellent, but the behaviour of the main lifeguard completely ruined what should have been an enjoyable family outing. It also gave me a sense that there might have been unfair treatment or discrimination, intentional or not. We joined Nuffield for the promise of a welcoming, family-friendly environment — but after this, we’re seriously considering cancelling our membership. I hope management reviews how staff communicate with families, particularly in situations where clarity and kindness could make all the difference.

I’ve been going there for adult swim lessons for over a year. Thomas is the best swim coach I’ve ever had. I’ve had many lessons for the past many years but nobody can match Thomas. I came from deep trauma of being in water. Thomas has helped me progress from zero to now capable of being confident in water (not deep water yet) by myself while learning techniques to swim. I consider myself the most difficult swim student. He’s very patient, resourceful, funny and 100% great in coaching non-swimmers. Their management also gave me a trial day pass for the gym and allowed me to use their gym one other day while my usual sports centre was closed for refurbishment. I have only great things to say about them. Fully recommend the centre.

Unfortunately going down hill. First the spa was closed temporarily then closed permanently due to rising energy costs. This is then followed by another price increase due to rising energy costs. I feel this is now an excuse. Services have become poorer. Gym equipment that is out of service is usually not fixed for a long time. One treadmill was out of action for 7 weeks! Shower doors etc need fixed but haven’t been. Not great

Have used this gym before. Up visiting my Mum for Christmas. Facilities are great. Used their sauna and when I returned to my towel it had been taken. Told the lifeguard who said I should go into the mens changing room and see if I can find who has it. Looked around but couldn’t identify my towel. Could have easily been a lady that picked it up. Returned to the lifeguard who called reception and said they didn’t have towels on site and couldn’t help me. Was told my best bet was to wait around the showers and see if I spotted who had taken it… Was pretty angry about being told while I’m dripping wet in only swim shorts that they can’t offer any assistance. Originally I only wanted them to provide a towel and I wasn’t bothered about losing a towel. Following the poor customer service I called the manager after leaving as I wanted to be offered compensation for the bad service. Was told all they can offer is an apology. Never experienced such bad customer service in my life. They said the reason they don’t have towels on site is people kept stealing them so was a bit shocked they have passed that problem onto their customers. The only option I was left with was either steal someone else’s towel or sit around until I was dry and leave. I drip dried and got out of there!

Recently joined and have used pool/steam/sauna/jacuzzi excellent facilities. Everywhere is clean, the staff are friendly great customer service. I have a yoga class booked next week and hope to use gym after an induction. The gym is big with lots of varied machines.

If I could give 10 stars I would! I booked to come for a session on classpass, but the morning of my baby was teething and I reluctantly had to call and cancel. Classpass are RUTHELESS with cancellations so I was already stressed about that + the stress of a sick baby, but when I called up I was immediately put at ease by the amazing receptionist, Emma. She was so lovely, so understanding, and said I could come in tomorrow if it suited me. Gyms are notoriously quite intimidating places, but the customer service here was so great that you'd find it hard to not feel welcome the moment you walk in the door. I was given a full tour by the lovely duty manager, then had a swim and shower that felt like I'd had a day the spa. Honestly, I was having a really bad week and the simple acts of kindness at this place just completely turned it around. Great people, great gym. Would 10000% reccomend.
