Best is the location and the pool available in middle of the city to keep the kids happy. Rooms are fine and amazing view of the castle. Good family room. Overall value for money is less when compared. Better value breakfasts in nearby local cafes and in the nearby Weatherspoon as well.

Staying at Apex Grassmarket Hotel in Edinburgh was absolutely perfect—truly one of the best hotel experiences I’ve ever had! From the moment we walked in, we felt welcomed with thoughtful touches like mulled wine and mincemeat pies, just because. The little gestures like that made the stay feel extra special. The hotel itself is incredible. Our room had a stunning view of Edinburgh Castle, and being able to wake up to that every morning was unforgettable. The location is unbeatable—walking distance to all the main attractions, yet tucked away in a quiet area that let us fully relax and sleep with the windows open. We were initially torn about staying on Princes Street, but so glad we didn’t! It’s loud and crowded, and being just a 5-minute walk from it gave us the best of both worlds: easy access and a true local feel. On top of everything, the hotel has a sauna free to use, which was such a relaxing treat after a day of exploring the city. Between the thoughtful touches, amazing location, and comfort, Apex Grassmarket Hotel was the most perfect place to stay in Edinburgh. I can’t recommend it highly enough!

Such a beautiful location. We had the castle view and it was awesome! But what made our trip was the front desk - Alasdair! My mother and I loved him. He is very friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and we always hoped he was at the front desk when we came by. We will book again just for him because he truly loves his job/Edinburgh and you feel it from the moment he greets you!

We stayed for 2 days/1 night. Alasdair greeted us upon arrival - we love him! You can tell he truly loves this city. The location of the hotel cannot be beat. Castle views, close to Victoria & Cockburn Street, close to the Vennel, etc. The only downside to the room was no AC, but the windows open and there was a fan to use. We didn’t eat here or have a drink at the bar, so I can’t speak to those areas. I would definitely stay here again!

Excellent hotel! Very clean, safe, and the beds are extremely comfortable. The location is also perfect. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Edinburgh. I would like to express my sincere thanks and appreciation to the hotel staff they are truly wonderful and very helpful. I especially want to thank Andres at the reception for clearly and precisely explaining everything; he was very kind and professional. Also, I want to mention a lovely incident I had forgotten my phone by the room door, and one of the staff members (unfortunately, I don’t recall her name) kindly knocked on my door and returned it to me. I truly appreciate that. It was my first visit to Edinburgh, and I’m very grateful to all of you. Thank you so much!

We are happy with the hotel, room is nice! Shower and seperate soaking tub was nice after very long travel to get here. The staff is very pleasant and friendly. The location is great! Hotel sits right below Edinburgh castle and the street is lined with many pubs and shops. You don't have to go far if you want to eat, drink or if you need something from the market. I highly recommend! Photo is view from room.

Fantastic hotel, with good parking (£15 per 24h) at the back. Location is terrific. Our family room has direct views on the Grassmarket and Edinburgh Castle. We loved sitting in the 2 comfy armchairs and enjoy the vista with a wee dram, after a long day out and about. Beds super comfy, no noise from outside revellers so slept really well. Central location was superb for our needs. Breakfast is very good - plenty of choice. You choose a time to have breakfast at reception, so the place doesn't turn into chaos, which I liked. Coffee is nice and robust from the machine, but there is only one machine, so that creates a bottleneck. Not a big deal for us. Staff really helpful. Would definitely use again. Thank you!

I'd like to commend the hotel reception lady named Sara. She made not only a great deal of customer service with a smile but also made our experience superb! We arrived very early despite check in time of 3:00PM, but she assured us that we will be contacted as soon as the room is ready. That gave us time to go around Edinburgh on a bus tour and have lunch. She also handled our luggages very well (even personally assisting us to bring the luggage to our room). She also made sure that our baby has a comfortable cot and provided us with hotel robes and slippers. When we came back, our room is beaming - not as luxurious as other hotels but above average comfort, clean and decent. Most of all, the warmth of Sara's service is something a review like this should not miss. Also I want to mention that we were given the room that has a majestic and live view of the Edinburgh Castle. Better than most views I had in the many hotels where I stayed.

Good sized rooms, bathroom a tad small didn't see the point of the bath unless you where under 4ft. The pillows looked amazing till you used them and the mattress was mediocre at best. Other than the bed though great location, just down from the royal mile and castle. Parking onsite is limited but if you get a space a decent price for the day. Bar area is open good selection, and great coffee!!

Great hotel, serving the best full breakfast! ideally located for the old town bars and restaurants. Spacious rooms, ours had twin double beds, with great friendly staff who couldn't be helpful. Will definitely stay again next time in Edinburgh
