Gorgeous cinema but the experience was pretty shambolic. Not enough staff. No-one checked our tickets. The poor bar staff (only one person for ages while another cleaned up) were making cocktails which took ages, while the queue for drinks got longer and longer just before a sold-out screening. Poor signage so no-one seemed to know if there was more than one screen and if they were in the right place, other customers seemed a bit stressed too. It felt like it could be magical if it had enough staff and was more relaxing on arrival. As it was I wouldn’t rush back.

Our favourite cinema. Sadly, we don’t live in Edinburgh so can’t come frequently. The MOST gorgeous cinema, a must go to if in Edinburgh. Comfortable beautiful seating, great cocktails. Just lovely!

Magical experience! Super cute Retro design, comfy seats, a little table close to every seat to bring your food and drinks in ! Never had a similar experience anywhere in no other cinema ! And the staff are so friendly and cool !

Absolutely stunning cinema with great feel to it. I particularly like that less known movies are also shown. Lovely experience that would have been even better if staff had been a little friendlier. Also, the seats are very large so that even bigger bodied people can fit comfortably. All in all recommend!

This was such a great & regal experience! My husband made reservations for us during our trip to Edinburgh and I’m so glad he did. The theater is located inside the Scotsman’s Hotel (it’s gorgeous inside!). The theater itself is very beautiful & posh. Think of it as a luxurious movie theater that comes with comfortable & large seats. The tickets come with popcorn and a drink. We chose their champagne and salted + unsalted popcorn. We purchased some pineapple juice and mixed it into our drink to create a mimosa. The folks in our group were as excited as we were and we had the opportunity to watch Elf which was perfect given it was close to Christmas. Overall the whole experience was lovely. The drinks, snacks, atmosphere, seats, and movie were all on point. It was a little pricey but this is also a more luxurious movie experience so it makes sense and 100% worth it! The only reason I gave it a 4 vs 5 was because it would be nice to have newer cinema options.

My first time visiting for a one off Wes Anderson movie, I was so impressed by this place. The iconic decor and aesthetic of the cinema itself is gorgeous, the lobby and bar area is also on par. Loved my visit, interesting assortment of snacks and drinks (including alcohol) on the menu, can’t wait to come back!

Very nice theatre hidden away which will transport you back to the future. Depending on what you go to watch it's more about the experience. Yes you will pay more but you get a high quality experience at the same time. Well worth the experience. I would recommend

Magnificant evening spent in the Scotsman Hotel and Picture House. Enjoyed a movie in a very comfortable old fashioned picture house with a glass of wine. Followed that with great food in their Cafe Restaurant. A very enjoyable evening. A must do in Edinburgh!

I’ve been aware of The Scotsman Picturehouse since I saw a photo of it on the Accidentally Wes Anderson Instagram account. As a film student I was so intrigued to see it! I asked at the hotel reception if it was okay for me to go look at the screen and they were happy enough for me to go in and look! When I entered the employee, Blair, was getting the screen ready for the next film. He was brilliant and was happy to take a photo of my mam and I on the seats and he also turned off the lights and showed the welcome sign to show me what the screen is typically like as you walk in for a show! I was only visiting Edinburgh for the day but I will certainly return to see a screening one time.

What an experience!! The whole vintage atmosphere, ambience and aesthetic is breathtaking. The seats are very huge and comfy and the acoustics are great. The price is considered higher than the normal go-to cinema but you are paying for a better experience. I loved the sofa (2 people) option and the free popcorn with your ticket purchase. This is a hidden gem in Edinburgh and it’s definitely a must visit.
