I had the most incredible time on the Loch Ness and Skye Magic 3 day tour last week. Our tour guide, Stewart was hilarious, very knowledgeable and made every moment a lot of fun. I had an amazing group with people from all over the world. We bonded very quickly and it made the experience that much better to have such good people there to experience it with. The sights were otherworldly. Scotland truly is a magical place and I’ve fallen in love with it. Doing this tour was an amazing way to see a lot of Scotland in a short amount of time. It was a very memorable adventure and I can’t recommend it enough!

Excellent tour, would highly recommend!! We had a group of 10 plus the tour guide on a tour bus that had space for 15 people. Everyone was aged between 22-32 and was very friendly. Mix of singles; two groups of 2 friends, and one couple travelling. Good mix of nationalities: 2 Australians, 2 Germans, 1 American, 2 Singaporeans, 2 Malaysians and 1 Indian - plus the Scottish tour guide. Castle Rock Hostel let us store our bags for free so we could just take our backpacks. Our tour guide, Mark, was awesome and made the trip. He was very witty, friendly, knowledgeable and flexible; catering to what the group wanted to do and changing plans if something cool came up e.g. a whole heard of highland cows were just hanging by the side of the road so we stopped to see them, and stopped to hear a deer that we’d heard was in the area. 8/10 of us were still in Edinburgh the night we got back and we all chose to get dinner together; and 7/10 of us were still there the next night and went to watch the sunset from the monument together. Good group bonding facilitated by Mark’s easy going nature and willingness to answer all questions and share interesting folklore stories - and even incorporate the group’s obsession with Jamie Frasier into his folklore. Also, both hostels are literally right on the water, incredible locations! There were guitars and a piano and it was karaoke night at the first hostel which was super fun, and a guitar and a banjo at the second so we had a group sing along which was fun. 10/10 would recommend!

This is the best thing I've done for my first trip in Scotland! Absolutely amazing and magical experience with our guide Neil! He is witty and full of stories, and really good taste of music. We visited museums, hiked stone mountains like in Lord of the Rings, visited waterfalls, went to sandy beach and windy coast, rode ferry, visited monuments and castles. For the variety of experiences, the price is unbeatable. We even ambushed a steam train!

Honestly one of the best things I’ve done, from someone who is an avid traveler. Usually I like to plan my own trips, but I think Neil made this tour far better anything I could have done by myself. His stories of his life and childhood in the highlands, the folklore and history of the region, and knowledge of hidden spots that most might pass over made this trip so special. I certainly think it was worth the money and the company is amazing. The hostels were also really nice. Some were on the water, while others were in good locations in the towns we stayed at. There were always plenty of stops for groceries, and they all had kitchens. (But also lots of opportunities to get food, if you don’t like to cook). Sometimes it might not be possible to stop at a major spot, if there is no parking space, but Neil always made it work. Honestly, one of our favorite spots was one where we were alone. We did find a spot at Storr, which was also a major highlight. Make sure you bring proper waterproofs because it rained on us every day of our. Also, bring good footwear for hiking. I personally went on the 5 day Highlands Tour and would definitely recommend it over the 3 day tours. Not because I’ve done the shorter tours, but because I can’t imagine seeing the highlands in an even shorter period of time. It is a special place and I didn’t want the trip to end.

Neil was AMAZING. My wife and I visited from the states to do the 5 day tour, and it was by far our favorite part of our trip. Neil has a great way of making the trip feel personal. He's funny as hell and is full of awesome historical facts and stories. Honestly just getting a chance to meet such a down-to-earth, interesting person made the trip for me- but that's just the cherry on top of this amazing tour. We got to see just about everything on the itinerary, and more. The weather was beautiful, and exceptionally clear so that was never an issue. All of it was amazing, but nothing beats the highlands and the Isle of Skye. A lot of the places we were taken felt off the beaten path, which helped make this trip feel so intimate. It almost felt like we were given access to the best secret places. The hostel accomodations were great as well. As someone who has never stayed in a hostel, it was relief knowing that the dorms we were sharing were with just the others on the tour. Talking with the more travelled members of the group, it was widely acknowledged that the hostels were some of the best they've stayed in. It definitely helps to be sharing a space with people who are respectful of others. I honestly can say enough good things about the trip. The guide, the stops, and the accomodations were all so much more than I ever expected. I would recommend Macbackpackers to anyone with the best vote of confidence possible. It was a trip I'll never forget!

Our guide Mark is so talented at telling stories while keeping up morale on a very wet and challenging trip and driving us around to all the amazing places in Scotland. We saw so much! Very kind and an amazing tour guide - wouldn't have been able to do it without and I'm eager to visit again.

Wow! This was absolutely incredible- a trip of a lifetime. In fact, it did not really feel like a tour but rather an awesome three day adventure with a local and access to not-so-touristy scenery! Neil, our guide, was absolutely phenomenal- hilarious and told us lots of stories. It was my birthday weekend, and everyone made it such a special celebration. I made amazing friends on this trip, and the hostel accommodation was wonderful in the small fishing town on the Isle of Skye. It is especially great for those with a young spirit- I don’t know how to express just how wonderful this tour was. Be prepared for the most magnificent adventure!

Absolutely amazing experience! I wish I could have done the 5 day tour because the 3 day one was so fun! Tim, our guide, was wonderful - funny and full of stories. The bus was nice, but I’d recommend taking motion sickness meds if you’re prone to getting car sick. You go through some curvy roads and roundabouts. The hikes and views were gorgeous. I can’t wait to go back to Scotland!
