I had a very positive experience completing the Children, Young People and Families course with Human Development Scotland. The tutors were excellent. Both were knowledgeable, supportive, and very encouraging. The course resources were also of a very high standard. There is no doubt that the learning from this course has enhanced my practice, and I will always be grateful for the knowledge and skills I gained from doing this course. Had I known about HDS when I was starting out, I would have done my diploma with them!

I would echo previous reviews cautioning studying here. I completed 3 years of training here including the foundation and counselling trainings. The staff team was fragmented, lecturers on the whole unprepared, which resulted in a poor learning experience, and disturbing dynamics overall for our group. While trainings are never perfect, it is important that prospective students can evaluate whether they are getting a solid training experience. I would be sure to take the time to compare other training providers and pathways. In hindsight, I would have chosen the NEAPP psychodynamic therapy training in Newcastle, which is BPC accredited and has more demanding clinical requirements, but is commutable from the central belt and has much better employment prospects (links with NHS), a smaller course cohort, more individual supervision and guidance, and more experienced tutors, as well as being cheaper.

I unexpectedly found this course when looking for counselling courses near Glasgow. I did not even know what the psychodynamic perspective was. I completed the Foundations course. I discovered much about myself that I could not unlearn. I progressed to the diploma and I am now a qualified psychodynamic counsellor. This course has changed my life in so many ways. If I imagine HDS as a βparentβ, there is a certain amount of holding required, that it is βgood enoughβ and I feel this was the case. I was encouraged to find my own path, my own sense of self.

I spent about 2 1/2 years training here after a while looking for a program that offered what I wanted to learn. The course facilitates a good mix of reflection on both personal experience and theory, which are essential. And tutors were supportive throughout the process

Future counsellors avoid at all costs. I had been accepted to their counselling diploma back in Spring and although I had emailed and called them several times since then ,they finally got back to me with the course dates just 2 weeks before the course start date (August). As a result I will have to miss not just the first weekend, but the whole course because of absences. The worst thing is that instead of saying sorry, they tried to gaslight me by telling me that 2 weeks is enough time and that I'm the only student complaining and making it a big deal although they were all given the dates at the same time as me (which is not true, as they were all informed 2 months before me). As if that was not enough and although this was clearly a mistake from their side, when I requested to speak to the course lead, I was not given her email as "she was extremely busy". After several emails and phone calls the course lead finally emailed me saying she could not speak to me as her work phone was not working (I guess she has never heard of zoom and internet ) but she was happy to email me back (how gracious of her). When I had to contact other students, through a group email I was added last minute, to find out when they were informed about the dates she asked me to stop contacting people as my emails were "akward and inappropriate".

I attended cosca modules 3 and 4 with HDS. It was an extremely unprofessional experience. I would caution any future applicants.
