I found myself in a tough position after arriving in Glasgow and was pointed in the direction of this hostel. The manager, David, was very helpful, and proved he looks out for guests. I felt safe leaving my luggage at the hostel while out and about during my four weeks at this hostel. Staff were friendly as were the vast majority of the guests. Although much swearing took place at times, it was also a fairly relaxed atmosphere. More showers would be nice, but the condition the facilities were kept in helped.

If you’re really traveling on a budget, this spot will definitely keep your wallet happy, but fair warning, it’s a little rough around the edges. The moment I walked in, there was a faint smell of cigarettes lingering in the air, like someone had been smoking inside and decided to call it “atmosphere.” Check-in was super easy, and the receptionist was genuinely kind, so I started off hopeful. My friend and I had booked a private room, which sounded great until we realized the door didn’t have a handle on the outside. That meant we couldn’t fully close it, not when we went out, and not even when we went to sleep. Slight security concern, but we tried to laugh it off. The room itself was okay… until I spotted a lone booger on the wall right next to my bed. That was kind of the moment the romance ended. I didn’t see many young travelers, maybe it was just the time of day, but the vibe felt more like a quiet community of older folks rediscovering themselves after life’s plot twists. Honestly, I feel like this place is more for more of a mature audience. Would I stay again? Maybe not. But as far as travel stories go, this one’s definitely getting a chapter. You definitely get the experience you pay for.

Great establishment. This hostel really embodies and gives the “backpacker” experience to a trip. With a large assortment of colorfull individuals giving life to the place, you’l always find at least one persone to chat with in the lounge. Otherwise activities are often organised. If I would have to use one word to describe the Clyde hostel, I would say this: Splendid.

Great stay, very social!! Dorm does feel like a school camp vibe, no privacy. Good kitchen but tiny fridge. The people are great there and really friendly! Would stay again! Ps thanks David for the capcakes hehe!!

Booked due to cheap price, but would not recommend!! Spend the extra money and stay elsewhere. To clarify, I’ve stayed in many budget hostels and would never expect a hostel to be perfectly clean or provide a hotel quality stay, however this hostel was beyond anything I’ve ever stayed at before. Stayed in an 8 person dorm and was the first person to arrive. Room was visibly dirty and smelled genuinely awful. Mess and the smell cannot be blamed on other guests, as again, I was the first person to arrive to the room - no people, luggage, or personal items were in the room at my arrival and other guests arrived after I did. Opening a window did not help with the smell. Overall, cleanliness was a big issue. However, despite what other reviews have said, the staff were friendly upon arrival which is why I’m giving 2 stars

Yes the showers need to be renovated. Its like the one thing the building needs. Own up and do it, itll last for years. Also maybe allocate 1 staff member to have whatsapp, and when a person books and has their check-in time outside of the normal hours they get an email with that number and instructions to call or message 30 minutws before arrival. because not everyone has the ability to call internationally, so whatsapp could help. I understand not being busy and not having staff around all the time in a small hostel, but simple changes could be made right? Edit: new shower curtain though! Just don't break through the thin mildy wood flood mat into the unknown hole beneath.

When a dead whale washes to shore, its intestines start to rot. The rotting of the flesh culminates in a growing amount of gas that builds up inside these intestines. When the pressure of the bacterial gas becomes too much for the rotting body to keep in, the whale explodes in dramatic fashion, the rotting bowels flying through the sky. You can smell this macabre phenomenon from miles away. All of this to say: you are better off sleeping inside a rotting whale's intestines, than sleeping at Clyde Hostel. This hostel of horror will seep through your skin, into your bones and infect you with the Clyde disease. It latches onto your soul to never let go. Clyde Hostel will haunt you forever. This is not a joke. Don't go here. You are warned.

My highest regret after staying here is that I never got to meet the legend behind these hilarious responses to bad reviews. Clyde is exactly what you’d expect from a low budget hostel and even slightly more, due to the excellent vibes downstairs and the cool staff. Cool people is always key! Rooms are clean, showers are spacious for a hostel and the beds are comfy. Plus there is cool art on every door. You do without some minor conveniences like plentiful outlets and showers (they’re a bit short on both) but I believe this is reflected in the price. It’s actually nice to encounter a few of these first world problems while you’re backpacking—it reminds you what matters, and why you’re really doing it. Overall it seems like the bad reviews are just not being left by backpackers, which makes the owner’s responses even funnier.

I loved it here, great common room atmosphere full of young people on holiday and having a good time. So glad to find a place like this in the UK, took me right back to when I was travelling and made my Scottish holiday so enjoyable. Thanks Tash and the team

Unfortunately I am really disappointed of the hostel... It started with my arrival: I was in front of the hostel at 8am, because I thought I could let my luggage inside and check in at 1 pm. But I couldn't find any opening times of the reception not at Hostelworld (where I booked it) or booking or here on Google. But this is okay, not that bad. I came back 5 hours later to check in to first get a key for the door downstairs which doesn't work at all... (Changed it later) I arrived in the room on the second floor and you can see the "clean" stairs on the pic attached... But way worser were the shower upstairs. Everything is dirty and smells. In addition the water temperature changes all the time... I really don't get it how it's okay to let people sleep in that conditions. I know it's cheap but at least a minimum of hygiene in would be really nice... I stayed for almost 3 days(2 nights) and the day I arrived the trashcans were full... and you can see how they were when I left. And you can see the beautiful clean toilet next to the kitchen. The kitchen is as bad as the hygiene in the shower... I'm shoked and can't recommend the Place, sorry
