I rang Oily’s about a potential coolant leak/water pump issue and to get the system flushed/refilled. Instead, I had the privilege of speaking to a middle-aged “I’ve worked in this industry for X years” expert, who confidently informed me that my BMW doesn’t need distilled water in the coolant — apparently that’s “just for batteries.” No, no… good old tap water will do! Because what’s a little limescale and corrosion between friends? When I mentioned that the car currently had red coolant and I wanted it flushed for the correct BMW blue HOAT, NAP-free coolant, this fountain of wisdom cut me off with: “OAT is the best.” Ah yes, OAT — the one BMW explicitly tells you not to use. But why bother with manufacturer specifications when you’ve got X years of… well, whatever that was? The best part? He declared all this without even asking what car or year I had, then dismissed me with the classic line: “Well, I’ve been in the industry for X years, love.” Clearly, X years wasn’t quite enough to learn the basics, like: - BMWs don’t use red OAT coolant. - Distilled water isn’t just for AA batteries. - Asking what car the customer drives before giving “expert” advice is probably a good start. He did graciously invite me to bring the car in the same day, but I declined. Because, shockingly, I prefer garages that know the difference between tap water and coolant. Moral of the story: Years in the industry ≠ actual knowledge. Maybe knowledge was chasing him but he was clearly faster. One thing for sure is this boy is the reason why instructions on a shampoo bottle are absolutely necessary.

Amazing service. Always book Oily’s for my MOT service as it’s always so efficient (30-40 mins) and can usually fit me in on the day or definitely within the week. Thank you!

Good place to go for an MOT. Gave us the two weeks to do repairs and we brought it back in once complete and they inspected the work quickly and passed it. Friendly helpful staff, they physically pointed out where needed welding in two points which they didn't have to do. Would recommend.

been going here for years, always great for MOTs , I never have had the feeling they fail the MOT to get the work so you can always reply on a fair test result, I dont care about the test fee. Over the years most of our vehicles have passed 1st time, never had an issue, nice people to deal with

Bought a pickup that had been put through an MOT ILLEGALLY!! The pickup was sent here for an MOT and failed on corrosion and a few other things and was then passed two days later with a clean slate (apparently everything had been fixed). The rear chassis, both near side and rear side, are completely rotten with a couple of terrible welds pretending it’s not there. The extent of the damage is obvious but when a garage says “it’s fixed” it tends to mean it’s fixed… Considering this truck passed its MOT two months ago, it should not be falling apart!! This garage should not be doing ANY welding, and probably shouldn’t be doing any MOTs!!! Absolute disgrace!! This car would NEVER pass an MOT as this is beyond unsafe!!!!
