A deep, wooded gorge following the Water of Leith. The shaded paths pass old mill ruins and the restored aqueduct of the former Edinburgh Water Company. This peaceful linear park demonstrates successful urban river restoration, creating a vital wildlife corridor within the city. Robert Louis Stevenson played here as a child.
My friend and I decided to take a wee wander to see Colinton tunnel as we hadnt seen it with all the murals. Its well worth the visit and not only for the tunnel but there are plenty of walks to go on.
A lovely place to have a peaceful wander. The River Leith bubbles along next to you, and you are surrounded by greenery. The path is muddy and full of deep puddles in the winter, so I recommend wearing sensible shoes. It is frequented by dog walkers, so sadly, you do have to keep an eye out for dog poo. The walks can be accessed by wheelchair users on a dry day but may have issues in poor weather.
Beautiful place, full of majestic trees. All of Water of Leith is gorgeous.
Best Mural ever seen for such along time…
Quaint and foliage-protected dell (i.e. area). An artificial "water fall" graces the view for about 140º from a standard point of view. Nonetheless angry in a way that water can only be in its liquid form. Recommended but only sometimes.
Great for a meandering walks and reflective contemplation while eating a pack of crisps (preferably Walkers).
Nice to go for a walk and quite sheltered. The path can get very muddy with a lot of puddles during and after the rain, as there is no drainage. Best to go out during the day, there are no lights along the route, except when you get to Colinton Tunnel. It is always noisy with the water rushing by and more so after a heavy rain, it can be almost deafening. So many dog walkers, don't expect a peaceful time on a nice day. The bridge across the water has been closed due to deterioration, but that doesn't stop people crossing it, of course!
