If you have the option not to go to this hospital, please don’t put yourself through it. Multiple failures from Mary ward and triage resulted in my baby being on paediatric ward instead of us both on Mary ward( both ill) but due to this I couldn’t be treated and had to leave my ill baby at 4 and 5 days old multiple times for outpatient apt whilst trying to breastfeed. Was given blood tests that I was later told would have made no difference when I was suppose to be book for a scan that wasn’t actually booked. Was denied an aesthetician review when they told me on discharge I could ring if I had any issues (later found I shouldn’t have been denied). The separation anxiety from leaving her so much so early was unbearable when we should have just both been re admitted to Mary ward (who kept saying we can’t be there) when I could not stand myself and had a suspected blood clot whilst my baby was also unwell. Currently going through the complaint department and 2 DATEXS have been done by members of staff . I hope this review stops people making the same decision to trust this hospital as I naively did.

We have had two babies here over a 7 year period. We found the midwives and staff very caring and considerate. They had lots of expertise to put our minds at ease. A special mention to Charley, Eve, Poppy and Helen, our midwives for their great skills, calmness and knowledge. The wards were not particularly busy for our 2 day stay although we have seen it busier in the past. There were areas we could see funding had been cut and things could be improved with sufficient funds, but this didn't detract from the kindness and professionalism shown. Thanks

Incompetent. My baby died in the second trimester because of something they didn’t pick up because, “it normally doesn’t happen this early”. I gave birth to my child in the A&E toilet because apparently telling the reception staff that your waters have broken and you’re feeling intense cramping isn’t an emergency. I saw a consultant a couple of months later who assured me I would receive a letter outlining the details of their findings- I received someone else’s letter. When I called to inform them and request my letter I was sent someone else’s letter again. I called again and was told the issue was referred to another team- that was 4 months ago and I still don’t have my letter nor have I had any contact from this team. Thanks for that RUH. That’s exactly the kind of care someone needs after a late miscarriage… I’m pregnant again and have made the mistake of going through this maternity ward again. They have no idea what they’re doing with appointments. I’m consultant led and have scans every two weeks and even with an appointment slip they still tell me I don’t have an appointment. One time I arrived on time and was told I was 2 hours late for my appointment because either I was told the wrong time or it was recorded in the system wrong. These are just a couple of examples. I have had to miss so much work because of their faulty system. Today was the breaking point in my trust for this hospital. I was due my anomaly scan. There was a woman that was talking down to me from the moment I checked in to my appointment. When I realised she would be in the room for my scan I said that I didn’t feel comfortable with her there and would like someone else. She refused to leave. I said that I am within my right to request someone else and explained again that I didn’t like the way that she had spoken to me previously. The sonographer then said she no longer wants to scan me and said “how dare you speak to my colleague that way”. Completely ignoring my reasoning for requesting someone else. I admit I could have handled it better, but it’s difficult being in the situation and feeling like I’m not being heard. I am now transferring my care to a different hospital in a different city because I would rather travel further and feel comfortable with the people handling my pregnancy than ever walk into the RUH maternity ward again.
