I have been a patient at widcombe surgery in Bath for many years and under the amazing care of Dr. Jones. Over the years the front office administration has declined significantly. First was an inability to speak to the reception staff and replaced with an on line form. Then came a very complicated online triage and zero opportunity to speak to any of the team . Currently the front office house team has devolved into a pedantic , complicated online systems and zero flexibility in patient care. Although I love my GP dearly, I will be leaving this surgery as under no circumstances should my primary care feel combative and that my existence is a blight and burden to their operation and every request a woe some burden . Do not go here !!

I have been so impressed with the new triage system at Widcombe Surgery. Before we had to wait a long time in a telephone queue, but now we just upload any information, including photographs, and wait for a response. In my case, I got a call back within the hour and an appointment on the same day. The new system means that more urgent cases aren’t queued behind less urgent ones. It’s so much less stressful and time wasting. I would also like to take the opportunity to say that the receptionists are always polite and helpful.

Hello I'm a former patient of the Surgery. Last year in October I've tried to book a meds review for my depression meds as requested by Dr. Davies Jones few months previously. I didn't seem to have issues before with the appointments , everything was perfect. In October I rang often but I was unable to book any appointment either a telephone appointment or even one with the clinical pharmacist as I've had in July. My concern was getting increased because the meds were for my depression and going from 150mg to 0 was very dangerous. I couldn't get an appointment so the meds were about to be stopped soon and that would affect my mental health. I rang multiple times, few times a week for a month and a half and no appointment was available. I explained every time to the receptionists that I can't stop abruptly the depression meds but they didn't seem to be bothered that I can't get an appointment and my mental health medication will be affected. After multiple phone calls I got fed up, decided to leave and called surgery again end of November. Someone bothered finally to send Dr Davis Jones my message, who had done the meds review before, I mean I didn't need anything just to make sure that the antidepressants are being prescribed continuously. Again they didn't send my full message to the GP: that I tried since October to book an appointment but none was available and that I want a full supply of meds cause I'm leaving the practice for good and I need them. I did receive just the antidepressants but luckily I registered asap with another surgery that made my meds review the next day I called. My message was sent also to another GP that issued an emergency prescription of antidepressants.and text me saying that it's the last time I'll get the meds I need to book a meds review, like I didn't tried since October. Ridiculous. So the receptionist didn't listen to my requests, never recorded in the notes that I'm struggling to get an appointment and never passed the full messages to the GP. Since the new system in September last year your appointments were just impossible to get and if the medication needs to be reviewed why do you stop it completely before you make sure I'll get an appointment? I don't think it's save for a person like me suffering with depression and registered with MH to be left without no medication at all.. Hope you got your system sorted by now and you'll pass my message it to Dr Curling. I left 6 months ago so things should be better already, I think, not like before when the messages of the patients didn't reach the doctors at all. I think the GPs were not aware of what was really happening with the appointments. What if a vulnerable elderly registered with you can't get an appointment for a meds review like me and they stop let's say the blood pressure meds abruptly and they have a stroke because they can't get a meds review? I don't think you want that to happen. That's why I decided to be honest and leave a review. Hope the situation at the practice improved since last year I think the surgery was brilliant very organized but last autumn the reception was handled very, very poorly. Your new system meant to be better was million time worse than before, I wish you never changed it, was nothing wrong with it, everything was spot on before. I still think was the tradition m receptiond fault because the doctors were ok. It's strange how 7 month was ok, they handled COVID 2024 vaccinations brilliantly and after that in autumn everything changed completely. I send my kind regards to DR. Davis Jones, amazing GP, such a caring and understanding doctor. Best regards Olivia Banica

I rarely bother the doctor.. I had a terrible UTI.. I was peeing blood for the 1st time of my life.. which is scary.. i filled in the for just before 9am...I got a message from the doctor saying she would refer me to the pharmasist.. by 4.10pm I called Widcombe Pharmacy and I was not happy but he was so friendly and was concerned about my symptoms, he tried to get the doctor to talk to me but he was embarrassed to say the doctor was to busy to talk to me..He Gave me the great advice to ring 111 as he wasn't comfortable prescribing basic antibiotics when he felt it was more serious.. I called 111 who got the doctor to call me.. she sounded cross that I made all this fuss, cut me off when i was trying to tell her about the pain in my back I'd never had before and the blood.. She prescribed me 3 days of basic antibiotics. The next week I'm in hospital with both my Kidneys working at 19%.. thanks for nothing Dr Curling.

Excellent Surgery On Friday June 20th , to avoid the heat, I came indoors. A good chance to try the new triage system. I wished to request an appointment, in the future. I was wary BUT no need. I felt the new system worked well. Within 10 minutes I had a phone call from a Dr ,advising me of an appointment available in 30 minutes, if I could make it! Yes I could .That must be the quickest appointment in history. I totally understand this was a lucky chance but it can happen.

Everyone at Widcombe Surgery is helpful and thoughtful. The best GP practice I have ever had. Note that there can be long wait times to see a doctor, if you aren't booking an emergency, but I think for the service you receive it is fair enough and worth the wait. If it is urgent they will ensure someone calls you within 48 hours, which also seems very fair. I'm a very happy and grateful customer.

After having a virus and feeling unwell for many weeks i begrudgingly made my first visit to the doctors in 7 years (it's never great visiting the quacks). The receptionist (Iona) clearly loves her job and imo is "outstanding" from her chirpy greeting and charismatic attitude to her caring and professional ability to deal with each patient swiftly while not making them feel rushed and allowing the queue to reduce at a very acceptable rate. Iona almost makes visiting the surgery a pleasure, (if that is ever possible) and is most certainly a great asset to the surgery. One would hope that she is well appreciated by her employers as it's a delight to witness someone who is so well suited to her position .

In my experience, the receptionists are friendly and have always tried their best to help me. I think Doctor Hodgson is amazing; she thinks through every aspect, explains things clearly and acts efficiently and with empathy. The best Practice I have belonged to and Doctor I have ever had. Thank you Widcombe Surgery!

The whole team are clearly working hard to provide the best they can locally. Having moved and transferred to Widcombe recently, interactions I've had across the team are far better than I've experienced elsewhere, from the reception team who conduct themselves with great integrity (and fit me in when there wasn't room when I had an emergency), to the clinicians who despite the time pressures put on GP surgery staff, performed a calm and complete medical support. Thanks to you All. I can see you dealing with frustrated and difficult patients, but you are definitely the best organised and best delivering team I have heard of, and I am very lucky and grateful. Thank you

Today my wife and I went to Widcombe Surgery to clarify some issues on vaccinations. We were met with Iona who was on reception but clearly is capable of handling so much more. What an incredible professional and how wonderful to receive such a first class service. She handled our enquiry, dealt with 3 other people at the same time and yet went the extra mile to still have the foresight to arrange a follow up. During all of this she portrayed a friendly and yet professional manner. A rare commodity in these strange times.
