I lived close to Stoke lodge both before and after the fence went up in 2019, and my mum still lives nearby. I walked our dog there daily, before and all throughout the pandemic until leaving the area in 2022, and I hardly ever saw Cotham school actually using the field. Not only that, the area fenced off was huge, far bigger than a school could reasonably use for sporting activities! Once the (ugly) fence went up it was possible only to walk around a narrow perimeter close to undergrowth and which felt very secluded, lonely and unsafe in parts as a woman alone. Watching the local news I’m now aware that the school is still contesting the removal of the fence and I’m also noting they’ve spent time here on google responding to previous reviewers and telling them they’re not allowed on the land. I’m astonished at the school’s behaviour and continuing attitude and hope the courts make the right decision.

A large playing field with lots of football pitches, a good playground and beautiful trees. Very well draining pitches so matches go ahead in all but the worst conditions.

Casual football pitches with goal posts, free of charge. Near playground for little ones. Pedestrian access only when Stoke Lodge closed.

Great little playground with a range of different apparatus for big and small children alike. The playing field is great if you need space, but due to a school using it, it's fenced off and it's not always available. The gates around the field are supposed to be open when the school isn't there but that doesn't always happen. Regardless there's a walking / running around the outside popular with dog walkers and people exercising.

Local playing fields which have unfortunately been let to a school which has fenced most of the green storage off. You can still use it at certain times but the vibe isn't the same. The playground is lovely for under twelves.

Gorgeous historic parkland with notable and very old trees, used for generations by locals and others for games, picnics, walking, keep fit and R&R. Owned by Bristol City Council. Since spring 2019 now enclosed and separated from its Grade II listed Victorian house by a 2m high steel security fence. It’s used for school sports 2hrs a day in the morning most days during term time. The lease states that historic community rights and use are to be respected. This is ignored. There are a few gates but opening hours are arbitrary. There are a few disjointed walkways around parts of the perimeter but these are not maintained and can be overgrown and muddy. volunteers are forbidden from making improvements. Sadly no longer worth visiting as you would have no idea whether or not you’ll find it locked.

Justice for Cotham School ★★★★☆
Not parkland, and not public, and a legally separate title from Stoke Lodge adult education centre. These are playing fields are on a 125 year lease to Cotham School and owned by BCC. The site has had real problems with falsely-entitled dog walkers ignoring trespassing signs. Fortunately the site is now being fenced to keep then out and allow school children and sports clubs to use them safe and secure from dog mess and disruption.

A beautiful, gently rolling open green space with a range of mature trees, (some rare), forming the parkland of a Grade II listed property currently used as an Adult Learning Centre. A much-loved and well-used community asset for walks, picnics, R&R and more energetic sports!
