Having read and heard so much about The Bearded Sailor, I had to visit. The shop was tidy, the staff were friendly, and the information on the wall informed me about the potatoes being used that day and where the fish had been caught. The emphasis on sustainability was appreciated. I spotted a mound of delicious-looking scraps. I enjoy mixing scraps with mushy peas or curry, so I ordered a portion, which was free. However, when I opened the packaging at our destination, I was disappointed to find no scraps, even though they were listed on my receipt. The haddock had a nice, crispy, light batter, although the fillet was a little dry. The chips were pale and slightly undercooked. The curry sauce was spicy but rather tasteless, and the peas were just fine. The halloumi fritter was delicious, with a light and crispy batter. Visited on a busy Wednesday evening - staff were efficient and made sure everyone got excellent service with a smile. I got the regular chips and a fish cake, portions were big and tasty! My eyes were a bit bigger than my stomach and I couldn't finish it, but the ¾ I did eat were great, highly highly recommend if you're in Pudsey on an eve. They also have a loyalty card which I wish I'd had the presence of mind to pick up.

I moved to Pudsey about a year ago, and this was my first time trying The Bearded Sailor. I have to say, everything was top-tier quality , from the lightning-fast and friendly service (even when busy) to the lovely, tender, perfectly battered fish and the flavoursome homemade tartar and curry sauces. Everything about this chippy oozes quality. Easily the best in the surrounding area, if not all of Leeds.

Had fish & chips from here a few weeks ago for the first time & they were absolutely delicious! In fact it was one of the best fish I have had. I had a lightly battered, well done fish and it was so succulent and delicious! Everything was made fresh and was piping hot too. The shop was immaculate and the staff were very friendly indeed. They even have a rewards card!

I visited today after seeing a video on social media advertising the products. I ordered a few portions of the halloumi loaded fries (each with different combinations of toppings) and I have to say the food was absolutely gorgeous! The halloumi was by far the nicest I’ve ever had from anywhere. The staff were friendly and very accommodating for my picky requests. As for the prices I do not think they are unreasonable at all. Especially when you consider the amount of products and the quality of the products that are being used. Oh and also they have incredible brownies on the counter!

Tried for the first time using Uber eats. The food arrived piping hot and portion sizes were large. The fish and chips were excellent which reminded me of what they used to be like years ago. Also asked for some scraps and was sent a whole box full along with some complimentary sauces to sample.

These are the best fish and chips ever. We love them from here, very tasty and plenty of them. Lovely friendly staff, and reasonable prices.

Fish and chips to the average Brit is very much personal choice - what you rate I might hate and vice versa. The Bearded Sailor was recommended to me as the best thing on the planet and the awards and recognition backed that recommendation up. So today we swapped our usual spot for TBS and they weren't horrible or a revelation. Firstly in these trying economic times with everyone who isn't obscenely wealthy feeling the pinch (small business included!) it is important to mention that these are not cheap. Fish and chips twice with a curry sauce and a mushy peas cost just over £20. I get that overheads are significantly more expensive these days but household budgets are also far weaker. Not sure where the balance point is to be honest. But bearing in mind the legendary Murgatroyd's in Yeadon is around this price, these were not up to Murgatroyd's standards (and Murgatroyd's isn't even my personal favourite!) The well done fish was exactly the same as my standard fish. The batter was light and pleasant and the chips were cooked exactly how they should be but to me the taste revelation I was expecting just wasn't there. Not bland but not exciting either. The mushy peas were very wet but had good flavour so for me this was the best part. Didn't hate it, didn't rate it. Distinctly average at a more premium price bracket. The Whaler nearby is better, considerably. But don't take my word for it, you may think these are outstanding! I didn't however.

Great service, great menu with ever evolving choice but keeping the same high quality. Highly rate it as the best fish and chips in Pudsey.
