I would of liked to put this in an email, but as there is no option to do so on your website, I'm afraid it's going to be a scathing review. I booked a table for today, Sunday 14 th December for Sunday lunch. We chose the Thackeray as it was a half way meeting point to meet my father and family for Christmas, all travelling and hour and a half. We arrived early, and although I'd requested a table in the restaurant we were initially told we were in the bar area on elevated bar stools. I explained that my father would not cope, for medical reasons, and luckily you were able to accommodate us on normal dining table and chairs in the bar area. We all arrived on time, after noone came to the table for over twenty mins, so we sought out to ask if it was table service, and we're asked if we could wait ten minutes to order as you were trying to sort a large party out. Another twenty minutes went by, my diabetic husbands alarm went off so I went to the bar and explained and the bar staff eventually reluctantly gave me a mince pie to give to my husband to get his sugars up. Our order was eventually taken 1 hour after our booking, and we were then at this point offered a free drink as there was still to be a delay from the kitchen. When our food arrived... All roast dinners, they were well below par! The beef was cold, over cooked and tough. The potatoes were rock hard and stale, although they were hot! The Cauliflower cheese ( paid extra) was rubbery and hard. The parsnips you struggled to get a knife in, peas half frozen, soggy greasy flat Yorkshire pudding, uncooked carrot, and cabbage that tasted of dishwater!! My sister had Salmon and the middle of her potatoes cake was uncooked and veggies as already described.... A waitress did ask if our food was ok and hot, of which we said no, and she offered to return it, but we'd waited so long so we said we'd make do. We decided not to go for desserts as tbh... The main put us off... No apologies came with the bill, which was sheepishly dropped off, and tbh my father paid it to just to not make a seen! He wanted to get going as it was also very cold in the pub, and that was uncomfortable too! I can honestly say it was the worst meal out I think we've ever had, or certainly had in a long time! Very disappointing for what was our little Christmas gathering and birthday treat for me.

Adhoc date night with the hubby and tried our luck with a walk in... the staff soo accommodating and seated us straight away, the menu looks divine too. We opted for Steak and Guiness pie with the vegetables and the Ox Cheek and short rib burger and chips i did ask for the cheese on the side which was no bother to the team, the pie was filled with lovely pieces of steak and plenty of gravy and the burger was tasty the chips cooked to perfection, fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside. When it came to dessert we ended up ordering 3 because I needed to sample both the expresso and rum creme brulee and the brioche bread and butter pudding with Penderyn whisky the creme brulee came home with me because the bread pudding won and the 3rd was the ice cream and sorbet It is well worth a visit if you prefer decent well cooked and well presented food rather than the usual pub grub a fabulous menu one I will be going through slowly.... thank you to the team there fabulous food and great friendly service

Myself and six others went for sunday lunch today after reading all of the good reviews but was left really disappointed as none of us could eat the food. The beef was pink and was so tough, so tough that you had a job to cut it. Other tables said the same too. The veg was so hard too and hardly any gravy which we had asked for extra. I will say a massive thank to Paula who dealt with our complaint with so much professionalism and could not apologise enough. She explained that a new head chef had taken over so she was going to speak to him.

The food at the Thackeray is always consistent with high quality food. They offer the best roast dinner in Wales! They change the daily specials menu, daily and have unique options. They offer a great selection of drinks - including cocktails and wine. The staff are always friendly and offer great service. Highly recommend.

I've eaten here before and found the food to be of a good standard. We pre-ordered our meals a few days in advance which I totally understand when you are a large party, but sometimes you end up wishing you'd ordered something else when the meal comes. I ordered the chicken tikka which came with chips, rice and a poppadom. Generous portion and tasted really nice. The majority of our party enjoyed their meals and the salted caramel popcorn waffle got rave reviews. I'll definitely try that next time. My niece's meal was overcooked so that was deducted from the bill.

The chicken burger cost £15 and came with 1 thin breast and 11-12 chips! It did taste good but i finished 10 mins before every and was still quite hungry after the meal.

Anyone in the Wales/Cardiff area would be doing themselves a disservice to not visit this pub! Amazing food, outstanding staff (especially Becky and Jason!!), and incredible atmosphere. Staff were accommodating and left us with many local recommendations for attractions in the area. Food far above par and very reasonably priced. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a perfect end to a day in Wales.
