   Awful experience – dirty restaurant and shocking manager behaviour I had a really unpleasant experience at Pillars Cardiff and won’t be returning. The restaurant itself was dirty, with flies everywhere, which immediately put me off. I ordered a chicken curry and there was no chicken in it at all, which raised serious concerns about food quality and hygiene. What made the experience far worse was the manager’s behaviour. He was shouting aggressively at a member of staff in front of customers and slammed an appliance down near him, which was intimidating to witness. When I challenged this, the manager told me that the member of staff he was shouting at was “drunk,” which I felt was completely inappropriate to say in front of customers and did not justify his behaviour at all. The atmosphere was uncomfortable and unpleasant. After I raised concerns about the cleanliness and how staff were being treated, the manager became confrontational, followed me, and made comments that made me feel intimidated. He even told me to “get back to where I came from (Caerphilly),” which was unacceptable. Overall, this was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had. Poor hygiene, poor food, and completely unacceptable management behaviour. I would strongly advise others to avoid.

   Service is great! Came here as a kid with my nan and it is very nastolgic! They haven't changed much in 15 years. It is cozy and feels like you're just eating at home! Prices are reasonable and portion sizes are fantastic. Love it! ❤️

   AVOID Cant give a low enough rating for this place. Really so disapointed. Visited with our kids on xmas shopping day out in cardiff. We had both been yrs ago& raved about it to the kids. Kids both had the chicken curry& chips which was cold for starters. When they bit into the chicken it was pink& some bits black. Inedible even if it had been hot! Husband& i both had fish& this was also barely cooked& batter coating was swimming in grease! I wouldn't even risk bringing it home for our cats just incase it made them sick! Complained to the young girl clearing the plates as i hate waste& wanted to explain why there was so much waste!& she seemed unsurprised when i said the fish& chicken was basicly raw&saud she was sorry. No shock.no offer to get manager& didnt seem genuine! Place generally very dirty& unkempt with a stale grease smell.,toilets were also dirty& no light so we had to change our baby with door open! As we left a staff member asked us if wed enjoyed! We told him about the raw food&he unbelievabley said the chickens cooked twice so didnt know how it could be raw! Absolutely disgusted by this place& their practices& personally think they should be shut& yes it was that bad. Im not a person to complain but we speant nearly 50 here for our kids to still be hungry!

   Used to be a Christmas tradition. My and my late dad would nip into pillars for lunch. Things have change. Fish was OK the rest of it was awful. I'd obviously seriously offended the man taking my money. Won't be back. Pic is what I could t eat.

   We were visiting Cardiff and found this place for lunch. It was in a basement and the restaurant is spacious. The food and drinks were reasonably priced and delicious. The staff were very nice.

   First visit, went in for a breakfast & decided on a large. Plenty of food, as per the picture... reasonably priced...quick & pleasant service...& overall, the food was ok. The only gripe I had was that the sausages were very salty, almost to the point that I couldn't eat them...I washed them down with some toast & tea, as I was starving. Saying that, I will definitely go there again & still have a big breakfast.

   I remember eating here as a child in the 80's with my parents. It hasn't changed much. It's still a nice meal with a fair amount of choice.

   Simple enough to understand. You either get your food immediately or you need to get a number and wait to be called. Not to complicated. Food is great value, sure it could taste better but I thought it was ok. Lasagna hit the spot. Peas were frozen though. It's busy and chaotic but not too troublesome.

   Breakfast was smashing and excellent value. Coffee also first class. Nice to see the place busy on a weekday morning. The jewel in the crown was plum tomatoes on fried bread.

   If you have walked into Pillars, expecting a good experience and tasty food, simply turn back and leave quickly; you will not find it there. When you walk in, you feel like you enter a WW2 bomb shelter that is barely maintained, place looks like it hasnt been refurbed since the early 60s. Dont get me started on the food, in regards to the bomb shelter, people in real bomb shelters probably had better meals! The service is poor too, nothing is made clear and the staff are not too bothered. I had a breakfast that was simply disgusting. Sausages were like eating mushy sand, fried bread (wasnt even asked to chose between that and toast) tasted of oil, the rest was bearable at best; the lack of quality was made clear. The beans were probably the only nice thing on the plate! The drinks are poor, I had an orange juice and a pepsi and honestly, you can get better quality at the reduced section in the poundstore. The price is alright but definitely not worth enduring a holiday to the toilet over. Overall, avoid at all costs.
