Do not order through Ubereats from this place. No response for order updates and no response to calls to get order status. Even after 1 hour they keep updating as order is on your way.
Have ordered here on 2 seperate occasions. The curry we have had is an unusual orange colour, is also quite spicy. The service however isn't the greatest. Have walked in once to order and have phoned them up to give instructios on another occasion. On both accounts, the man that has seen us and answered the phone to us is very rushy and can be very impolite. When I gave the first intruction by phone, he had his voice raised a little and was talking quite fast as if he wanted to get off the phone. He then said bye before I could get my 2nd instruction in and I had told him to wait. Not sure what's going on with the service in this place, but it definitely isn't what is expected. The man at the desk could do with some customer service training. The food we ordered this time was not up to par. The food arrived late and when we tried the food, it was absolutely bland chow mein and curry sauce, with the curry sauce only containing spice. The only thing that had a slight bit of taste was the chicken balls. I will say the driver was apologetic for the late delivery of the food. Overall very bland food and customer service needs work. Would not recommend.
Ordered a few times and it’s been great. The most recent order however was terrible. Everything was tasteless. Also No egg in the egg fried rice tasted like plain boiled rice.
Can't complain about their food. Have been using them for well over 10 years. In that time I've placed around 40 orders and spent well over £1400 on them. They were my go to takeaway. The last order I placed was through Just Eat and it didn't arrive. I asked for an update and had an email asking me to ring the "restaurant". When I looked on the Just Eat site I realised that my house number wasn't showing for some reason. I phoned Shanghai Chef to explain, but only got as far as saying "Hi, I placed an order around 2 hours ago" when the guy on the phone cut me off and started aggressively shouting down the phone, telling me my food was ready an hour ago and he'd been trying to ring me about 16 times (my phone is on Do Not Disturb after 8pm due to work nuisances, so didn't go off or record a call). He then asked "You wanna cancel?", normally I'd say no, but as his attitude was so rude and aggressive I said yes. 2 days later £54.39 was taken from my account. I tried to claim from Just Eat, but they told me that the restaurant had marked it as delivered, so that was that. I provided the screenshots showing my missing house number and asked them to confirm with the restaraunt where they had delivered to as NOTHING had come to my house. They said it was company policy to stick with their original decision so there was nothing they could do. I had to escalate my claim to Paypal and provide the evidence, luckily after 3 weeks I got my money back, but I will NEVER buy from this nasty rip off merchant again and he's lost my business for good. I won't be using Just Eat again either as all a resturant has to do is mark it as delivered and you're out of pocket.
Food arrived hot and in good amount of time, I had the special Thai curry, there were no king prawns in the curry when there should have been, I also requested no carrots and this wasn’t taken notice of. A bit bland but edible. Used to be the best in Newport, gone down hill unfortunately
Picked up a chicken curry , fried rice and chips last night and I have got to say it was the worst Chinese curry I have ever tasted! Curry was a strange orange colour with chicken that was like rubber , the chips were rock hard and the rice was very sticky! Will never be visiting again!!
it's quite expensive compared to our usual one we use and it turned up later than it should've and not very hot
A great and friendly welcome along with lovely food. We always judge a Chinese on the quality of their pancake rolls and these were top notch
Having had several good take aways from here in past months, we ordered another one this evening But unfortunately it was the worst Chinese meal we have EVER had! We had to throw most of it in the bin having cost us £30 ! Never again. Maybe chef changed? We T
Sorry to say but the chef should be sent back to shanghai, I have had the mixed box special,again as so enjoyed it ,this one the meat was over cooked and hard ,couldn't even cut it with a steak knife as so hard. Most of this meal ended up in the bin. Get a chef that doesn't over cook the food. One of the most unenjoyable meals I have had
