The food at this Vietnamese spot is authentic and delicious. The beef pho is rich and flavorful, and the banhs are fresh and vibrant—highly recommended. However, the experience was disappointing. The staff were loud and talked non-stop during our visit, and one worker kept whistling, which made the place feel more like a casual takeaway than a proper restaurant. For the high prices they charge, I expected a more relaxing atmosphere. Great food, but the vibe needs improvement.

Hanoi 1991 is one of those places I've noticed when walking through the Royal Arcade over the last 5 years and can't explain why I hadn't yet been in. Well, no more. Checking a few other reviews just drew me in to find out just what I've been missing. Great Vietnamese Cafe dishes were complimented by the great surprise of the egg coffee... a slightly sweet cappuccino textured drink that would draw me back on its own. The Grilled Pork Banh My was a tasty dish while I looked down the fairly brief menu planning my next lunchtime visit.

Delicious Vietnamese egg coffee. Just know that it is extremely sweet and you need to use the spoon to eat the egg foam (which is dairy free by the way- perfect for someone like me who is lactose intolerant). I ordered a slice of their vegan carrot cake, which is tasty. But dessert doesn’t go well with the egg coffee, because that is a dessert in itself. If you’re a little hungry like I was it’s better to order a savory sandwich if you want to have a Vietnamese egg coffee. If you want dessert, stick with a regular coffee. Their staff should give customers a head’s up about this so that’s why I deducted a star.

Went for a quick lunch and was surprise with how spacious the place is (there is an upstairs seating area). The decor is amazing bringing a little bit of Hanoi to Cardiff! There are a few vegan options! The bahn mi is so delicious and generous portion! A lot of smoothies as well! I really enjoyed and had a good experience! The waitresses were so lovely too.

I’ve been looking forward to having lunch and trying out Vietnamese Bahn Mi! The servers were friendly and recommended to me Cinnamon Egg Coffee instead of cocoa (because it was already sweet) and I appreciate that because it was my first time trying the egg coffee. There was no black sugar pearl boba - next time! The Bahn Mi was yummy - baguette times by 10. Had all my favourite tastes like spicy tang, fried tofu, packed with veggies and the bread wasn’t stale or too soft. I opted for the vegan tofu as I have a halal diet and personally prefer vegan food over food that I’m not 100% sure is permissible for me to eat. Next time I’ll bring a friend ❤️

The traditional beef pho were really good, especially the broth, feeling so clean and refreshing with all sort of toppings! The beef was so great and so tender! It was also so authentic and traditional! Coffee were reallly awesome, esp with their Viet coffee with condensed milk!

As a Vietnamese, I highly recommend this restaurant. I am a pho lover and miss it so much, but eating here has brought me back to Vietnam, it tastes better than pho in lots of UK restaurants I've been to. The place is cute and cozy, the egg coffee was great, quite close to the original egg coffee. Banh Mi tastes lovely, I just love it. Price was reasonable too. However, I think it would be even better if there are more dishes on the menu. But do visit if you're craving Vietnamese food. You won't be disappointed.

Vietnamese cafe in the heart of Cardiff Central. My Bánh mì was tasted amazing with all the different flavours. First time trying Egg Coffee. Felt like it was more like a dessert, because of the very sweet taste, rather than a hot drink! The cafe just lacked any atmosphere. There’s no music and tables are close together and so you can hear other people. Dirty tables, plates and cutlery weren’t cleared away promptly. Decent place if you wanted to try some authentic Vietnamese cafe cuisine.
