I love going to this vibrant place. The atmosphere is buzzing. It seems like families and friends are here and chatting. The staff are friendly, especially the chefs who are knowledgeable about their craft. The only problem is that I can't go there very often as I live over 100 miles away, but like to go with my parents when I am in town. Food was delicious and meats were succulent. I asked the chef how they managed it and they said they have a computer controlled oven that cooks to perfection.

We were a table of 4 for Sunday lunch. We arrived early and were nicely invited to have a drink at the bar while we waited. When we were taken to the table by the host Chris, he introduced our sever as Mitch who was really personable and positive. It is unusual to have professional and enthusiastic service at restaurants nowadays, so Mitch was a refreshing change! The chefs serving the carvery were great as well, the food of exceptionally high quality with vegetables not being stewed or cooked to death, but actually fresh and inviting. If you like a carvery, this is superb and at less than Β£20 per head is great value.

I resonate with many points made by the other reviewers, but I must say I truly enjoyed my roast dinner. It’s a rare pleasure to have someone else cook and serve it to me instead of spending hours preparing it myself. Plus, it offers great value, especially when you take advantage of the rewards program. The staff were welcoming and accommodating. We arrived at 7 PM when most diners had already finished their meals, so the atmosphere was starting to calm down. It’s understandable that the vegetables, having been on the hot plate for nearly an hour, might be a bit dry or hard. The refillable soft drinks were fantastic, although I didn’t sample the desserts. The roast was quite filling, especially since you can go back for more vegetables, and I absolutely loved the signature gravy and meats were cooked to perfection. They were very accommodating to the needs of children as well. The chef was a wonderful person.

My family ( party of 5 + 1 take out) have visited Toby Carvery , Rhoose about 4 times the past 2 months. The staff are absolutely lovely! They are welcoming/friendly, patient, accommodating and their service is impeccable, nothing is too much trouble. Yesterday we went for an early dinner. I always get a take out for my husband. I apologetically asked the chef for some extra pots for condiments, who happily helped me. Then a staff member with an abrupt manner, sarcastically told me that I was only entitled to '1' pot...I felt so embarrassed..I offered to pay extra for the pots and then jokinly said that I would wash the pots out and re-use on my next visit. I felt awful...surely after paying for 5 dinners and 3 deserts, several small pots would not have the restaurants' budget on a huge deficit!! I'm not one to complain, however I felt I had to address this. I explained how I felt to a staff member( who was very apologetic) I asked them who the restaurant manager was only to discover it was the staff member who was rude to me. I didn't feel comfortable to approach her to expressive how I felt....I dont think I will be visiting again anytime soon. On a positive note, the staff are an asset to Toby Cavery and the restaurant manager should learn some customer service from her lovely team.

I haven’t been to a Toby carvery in over a year. There’s now Stonehouse and Coopers carvery in what used to be South Glamorgan. Depending on what time of day you visit tends to depict what food is going to be on offer. That’s not strictly true though as most of the carvery is replenished throughout the day. So on a Tuesday at approximately 4 pm I pull into a near empty car park on a relatively sunny afternoon. The sign that says β€˜ wait here till seated β€˜ I stand at for a while. There are four staff in and around the bar in black uniform. A chef wanders from the table he was sat at back into the restaurant. Another staff member who had been outside for a cigarette then re enters the bar area. Not in black uniform like the others, looked like kitchen staff. Hope she washed her hands? Not one came over to greet me. So I approached the bar area and waited patiently. Two customers were being attended to whilst the other four or five staff members idly chatted nearby. Then after around two minutes I was served. I asked for a carvery and was then asked where I’d like to sit? My reply was the quieter part of the restaurant where there was no one was my preference. I was duly shown where to sit and then waited at the carvery for service. At least two minutes passed before a chef, then another chef came from the kitchen. I asked for a beef and pork standard size serving. The chef was pleasant and asked if I wanted a Yorkshire? The veg had been under lamps for a long time. The handles you use to serve were hot and the peas had dried out. The carrots had gone brown, needed a stir, the roasties were almost dry and the green beans were ok. Was never a fan of cauliflower cheese. No red cabbage today. Sweetcorn looked dried out! After pouring their trademark gravy over my meal I then took a seat in a quiet corner. A server asked if I’d like a drink around ten mins later. None of the women at the bar or restaurant looked like they wanted to be there. It was like you were putting them out. A forced smile, no rapport and the minimum customer service was given. As for the meal, it was very average. The beef was very tasty, cooked an almost medium rare. I really enjoyed it. The pork was dry, like shoe leather! The Yorkshire pudding was dry and hard. The vegetables were very average and below par. The gravy was as it should be. I had a very lacklustre orange juice and lemonade. It was flat and lacked β€˜fizz’, just like the restaurant and the staff. I won’t return and definitely didn’t order desert.

The food was fine, typical Toby offering. Service was friendly, including the carvery chef who was apologetic as they had run out of Yorkshire puddings and more were being prepared, and the waitress was pleasant. The only issue was that they were busy and lots of used dishes placed on several side units/waiter stations and not taken to the kitchen and overflowing bin near the drinks machine. Didn't give an overall great impression. Maybe short staffed?

it was great, not packed to the rafters like it can sometimes get, reasonable queue for the carvery, very pleasant and hospitable serving staff throughout. Good size portions served, all in all a very pleasing experience at a very reasonable cost. Well done to all the team

Food is always amazing and always leaving satisfied. Sadly each time I’ve been there I’ve had to wait least 5 minutes for the chefs to serve me due to not being there. Lovely waitress/waiters also very friendly and approachable. Very quick with any requests we have asked for.

This Toby carvery is situated on the outskirts of Barry near the Cardiff Airport. There is a large free car park with a Travelodge. There is a small menu that runs along side the carvery. There were three meats available at the time I visited. Staff were friendly and its reasonably priced.
