This place is by far the most pleasant mental health unit I have been to. Thank you! It is doing my mental health the world of good being here. Its spacious and friendly, peaceful and relaxing with very nice and helpful staff. I hope I come here if I ever need to revisit a mental health unit in the future.

Spent approx 5 hours in the Medical Assessment Unit. As A retired Nurse my sympathy goes out to the nurses and staff as the unit was full, No beds available to transfer patients to and so many patients just standing around. The nurses were excellent polite knowledgeable kind and efficient. Treatment was good and thorough. While sitting in the small waiting room with 11 other patients all waiting for blood results.i had time to reflect. My blood was taken at 20.10hours and results came back about 23.30 hours. The protocol for bloods to me is ludicrous. The bloods once taken are picked up.at an alloted time and taken to the Gwent or the Grange for processing. When YYF was built there was to be a path Lab, why is there not, it could be used by YYF and local GP surgeries . Blood tests would be processed much quicker and the unit would be able to send the patient home or keep them for admission much more promptly. Of course this is a exercise in cost and the good of the patients and the over stretched staff has been put at the bottom of the list. However length of footfall per patient would be reduced, complaints would be reduced, and the staff would experience a little job satisfaction lifting thier moral which is very much needed. With the quicker movement of patients staff would feel less stressed and in control. This was only one adjustment that would make so much difference. Sometimes ABUHB you need to put your patients and staff in number 1 priority not the board members or Senydd and look to your duty of care and admit you are not achieving the level needed for the health and well-being of all concerned.

Our family would like to sincerely thank all the staff at Annwylfan Ward at Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr hospital, for the exceptional care given to our mum/nan. The nurses and all healthcare professionals were truly outstanding, compassionate, patient, and dedicated in every way. The kindness and respect shown made such a difference, not only to her comfort but also to our whole family. Every member of the team went above and beyond to ensure she was cared for with dignity and warmth. We are deeply grateful for the professionalism and compassion shown throughout her stay. Annwylfan Ward is a shining example of exceptional care, and we cannot thank the team enough. From the family of Diane B

Brilliant service today from Minor Injuries Unit. I was there early in the morning when they opened up. Was greeted by a cheery, happy receptionist. Seen within a few minutes by a professional senior nurse. 10 minutes later the nice bloke from XRay called my name and escorted me to get pics of my busted ankle. He then walked back with me afterwards. I was only sitting down for 5 minutes more and was called back into the consulting room for diagnosis, treatment and advice given. All done and dusted in just over half an hour, everyone polite, kind, patient, friendly, wearing masks, and very reassuring. Thank you everyone in MIU Ystrad for saving me an extremely stressful long wait in A&E The Grange.

Most traumatic time of my life spending time on the bedwas ward with my father here for 2 weeks, no one cares, no one tends to patients, no basic care, no communication, no medication administered. The ward is supposed to be one to one but you won’t get anyone to help at all. Most staff can’t insert needles to administer drugs so just don’t give them any, patient nil by mouth but nurses don’t know so bring porridge, milk etc, even the information board applied to the previous patient that used the room along with his meds still stored in the bedside cabinet .The list is endless. Absolutely no care whatsoever,. Needles to say patients pass away due to neglect. New Year’s Eve 7 out of ten staff rang in sick and Xmas day 8 out of ten staff rang in sick, I only gave one star because I had to

Was sent here when my daughter needed an urgent out of hours gp appointment. First up the underground car park was all closed down so parking was a nightmare even for a Sunday. There were cars parked everywhere including all the way up the small winding road leading up to the floor needed. The out of hours waiting room isn’t sign posted, no one around to ask directions and took a while to locate as haven’t been here before. It was in the minor injury department which was small, quite dirty and dingy! It was full to the rafters with people who were coughing, spluttering and complaining about the waiting times. No one had a mask on. The receptionist was not very professional and not very helpful. She was more interested in getting back to her conversation with a co worker than actually helping people. Even when I requested a water sample bottle which the gp told us it was to much trouble for her to get off her seat and get one. Although we had a pre booked gp appointment the wait was over an hour. What’s the point of an appointment system?! Three stars was for the gp who when we finally did get to see him did attend to my daughter. He looked after her really well, explained himself and I thank him for his swift and professional support in diagnosis and in treating her. I wouldn’t go to this hospital out of hours unless you have time to wait and don’t mind being coughed over!

Took my mother for an x-ray, she has Dementia and resides in a specialist nursing home so this took a lot of organising, the staff were absolutely hopeless and I told them! Never have I witnessed such inept and uncaring behaviour, after a lot of huffing and puffing refused to do the x-ray as she may be seriously injured?? This was the whole point of the x-ray! My mother had had a fall a week previously and her GP said to get her x-rayed just in case. We walked out after an hour, went Ebbw Vale the next day- brilliant! All sorted with the minimum of fuss, shame on you all at Ystrad Fawr!
