I found the hotel excellent value for money. The staff were all very helpful, polite and professional. I stayed for one night for business and I didn’t want to pay for something too expensive. The room was clean and tidy and the bed and bedding was very comfortable. The breakfast was included in the price with lots of choice. I would definitely stay again.

This hotel is in a great location with bar and restaurants nearby, the rooms are tired and need decorating and modernising. There isn't a restaurant or decent bar. The receptionist though was very helpful. This place needs some attention and TLC.

First time visiting and whilst I saw previous reviews about how bad it was I still visited. The hotel itself is very old and outdated and the floor boards creak, however I feel it goes with the age of the building and its character. Yes water pressure was terrible and room not very warm, however for the price you actually pay you cannot moan. I stayed for two nights and I actually didn't not mind it all. The bed was comfy and sheets were clean, previous reviews said differently but this was not the case for me when I stayed. Hotel is situated very close to local shops and resturants and you are allocated parking when you book which is good. I would stay again if I was passing through : )

Sadly it feels like the hotel is on its last legs. A nice welcome from the Croatian Receptionist( sorry I didn't get your name ) who appeared to be the only person there!! Saw her serving the only customer in the bar about an hour after arriving. A Saturday night with no atmosphere no wonder the place was empty. The room was a standard double but the hotel needs investment. Bathroom towels were acceptable but the shower dangerous from warm to scalding hot to cold, shower/shampoo dispenser virtually empty just grubby feel to the place. Hair drier rattled and then started smoking, pat test over a year old ...again dangerous. Such a shame it could be lovely but it needs serious money spent on it. No Menu's in the display boxes outside would think Xmas parties would be advertised there by now. Feel sorry for the staff the owners need to get a grip and invest......in my humble opinion!!

If I could not give this hotel no stars I would. Please do not give this hotel your money. My friend and I were due to spend 2 night here but had booked another room elsewhere for the second night within an hour of getting there; something I have never done or needed to do in the past. We are lucky that we are in the position that we can do that; I know that lots wouldn't be. The problems were: 1. There was no restaurant that served food after breakfast even though a restaurant is advertised online and even on their (filthy) 'Welcome note'. 2. We stayed in the 'modern' blocks at the back of the property which were not locked so anyone could walk in. 3. The corridors and stairs had an unpleasant smell, the carpet was frayed and paint was peeling off the walls. 4. There was a broken leg on the bed. 5. The beds were ancient and tiny. 6. There was no toilet roll - we had to ask the maintenance man who was cleaning the rooms for it. 7. The cups didn't match. 8. the toilet did not flush. 9. The carpet was filthy. 10. The shower curtain was absolutely vile with a massive yellow stain on it. 11. The fire door did not close properly in the corridor. 12. When we asked the man on reception to change rooms mainly because our toilet wouldn't flush he huffed and puffed about it and didn't offer so much as an apology. 13. The second room was moderately better with slightly newer beds but there were holes everywhere in the bathroom. 14. The toilet did not flush properly, better than the first room but still not great. I could go on with how much we hated this place. We don't expect a lot, basic is fine as long as it is clean and well looked after - this place absolutely isn't. I have back packed around Australia and stayed in some places but this beats the lot. The main building is beautiful outside and maybe the rooms there are much better - I truly hope so but the ones at the back are not fit for purpose.

Really good staff. My shower didn't work and I was upgraded to another room from single to double. I couldn't sleep and the night staff allowed me to purchase a pint of squash The breakfast staff were pleasant and friendly and the breakfast came without waiting long

We went to a family wedding reception held here back in October. The staff were freindly, helpful and worked hard to make it a special day for the newly weds. The guests were well fed and food was lovely.

Recently stayed here while on vacation, wanted to save some $ and not stay in London. Great location you can walk about 10mins to train station. Hotel is a little dated but clean room and plenty of space. Our shower did not work great, we did mention this and it was fixed when we got back. Breakfast was good, and the staff was very attentive and helpful.

First the good- Siobhan, what a ray of sunlight! Siobhan works in the restaurant and bar but can’t do enough for the customers. She was so helpful and welcoming it’s hard to complain about the service (even though she got our meal order wrong). Location, on the high street yards from the castle with free on site parking. The price, booked directly and that reduced the price from my normal booking site by £21 and included breakfast. The bad things. Look it’s a very old building so the stairs, floors and walls are uneaten the rooms are dated but modern rooms wouldn’t suit the building however it feels a bit 70’s. That said the dining chairs need re-upholstering. We stayed in room 1 which is in the main building but faces the road and even the secondary glazing didn’t quieten the resident pigeons. It’s a good job I pack ear plugs. But the room has all the modern amenities and an abundance of hot beverage choices. The worst thing was the shower the temperature was uncontrollable and the shower head was well past descaling and needs replacing. We only stayed one night and the manager was chatty and friendly so I’m sure if we had pointed it out he would have sorted it out. All in all for the price I would return knowing what to expect
