There is a great walking track around the reservoir that spans 24 kilometers in a circuit. I previously walked this route with my family as a practice before the West Highland Way. It's an excellent track to prepare for a long hike. The best time to walk the circuit is early in the morning - peace and quiet. Although most of the car park doesn’t open until 7:00 or 9:00 am, there are a few street parking spaces available near Barnsdale. I found that walking in the early hour provides the best sighting for birdwatching enthusiasts.

If you're keen on kayaking this isn't the place to go. Came here with family and friends with 2 kayaks hoping for a nice day on the water. Having visited the lake District many times in the past now that we have moved this appears to be the closest thing. Got the kayaks out of the van got.on the water and one of the young water police there told me I can't be on the water without a lifejacket. Fair enough I went to where he suggested I get one from and when questioned why I needed one I got told I would need to pay Β£25 launch fee. Bearing in mind I'd already carried my kayak down to the water so it didn't need launching and that I've never had to pay anything in the lake District this launch fee seemed a crazy sum of money, bearing in mind we had brought 2 kayaks so we decided not to use them both as it would have cost Β£50 to "launch" them both. In addition you only get to use a tiny amount of the water as there are white buoys that you're not supposed to go past when there is so much more to explore and paddling around in the small area gets boring pretty quickly. The place itself is lovely and the staff were polite and helpful but the rules and costs really put us off. We won't be going back unfortunately which is a shame as it could be so much more.

Maybe it's a good place to stay with family and have a barbecue on the grass. Parking is not to expensive coffee available . But if you're thinking about spending time swimming or staying in water you gonna be really disappointed . Nice sand as advertised but not sandy beach as sand finish around 2-3 metres from water and sharp stone and mud started from this point (check pictures) not inflatables allowed so where we can youse it in our bathrooms? Water is not deep enough for swimming ( acces only to around 10 metres check pictures)

It is a really nice place to have a nice day there, there is a huge part where you can picnic, the natural reserve is huge so you can go hiking as well. There is an aquapark and you can rent canoes and standing paddle boards for a good price. Perfect for families and groups of friends that want to have a nice day in a nature place. They have plenty of carparks and there is a cafe and bar to eat something. Also every hour there is a boat with a restaurant and drinks that go around the lake. Totally recommended if you are looking for a place to have a nice day

Lovely spot with plenty of walking routes and fantastic water sports available for a very reasonable price. Really busy though so try and visit outside of peak hours to really enjoy this place. Perfect for a full day out - the grassy areas even come with built on barbecue stands!

Walked around half of the reservoir. Footpaths well signposted, so you know exactly where you are on the map. Beaches closed due to covid19, but toilets and food stalls/cafes open. Lovely place to visit, whatever age you are. Perfect for walking and cycling. Plenty of resting places to take in the views.
