Some members of staff are lovely, but far too many are rude and extremely unhelpful, making the overall experience quite unpleasant. I have recommended a few people in the past, but will not be doing so going forward. Other gyms are more cost-effective and treat you as a valued member. Do not join.

IMPORTANT addition to my earlier review: There’s been a spate of locker robberies and crime at this gym. Don’t join. A close friend told me he had his wallet nicked after his locker was broken into - and he also told me there have been other members who had told him it wasn’t the first time. Staff were helpful but I think this place has clearly got an issue with this. Whether it’s an inside job or not? - I don’t know - but it’s a definite serious issue here and not first time. Other main problems from earlier review: 1st thing is the air conditioning: To call it Arctic would be an understatement. It’s freezing! And I’m not the only one to say it. Many I speak to agree with me. People are in the wi-fi room shivering sometimes and the cold air is directed at you from all directions, even upstairs. Like I say, some good things. But also: 2. When me and partner use the steam we used to sit on two small deckchairs but now one is broken and there’s only one, so we can’t sit together anymore. I’m not going to sit here and complain too much but these are the two main issues. The aircon needs to be set less cold and not as harsh! Gary.

I've been a member of many different gyms over the years, but this particular Virgin Active in Crouch End is my favourite. The gym floor is spacious, with a good array of machines and free weights. There are a lot of different classes on offer too, from callisthenics, to yoga, pilates and boxing. It is rather expensive - around £130 - but if you make good use of the facilities I think it's worth it. Make sure you grab as many classes as you can, because they are all included in the cost. The staff are very friendly, and im only knocking off a star because the pool is very small, and often in use for children's lessons.

I used to enjoy going to the club, but things have changed: - they relentlessly hike the prices (now over £160 per month) - Some of the staff are so unfriendly - You regularly queue for machines - Virgin's customer service is TERRIBLE. It sometimes takes them over a week to respond to emails, and often they just close the ticket without any resolution. Crouch End fitness (just around the corner) is far better value.

I do really enjoy this gym and the staff are lovely, but I don’t think I’d recommend anyone signing up for it right now. It’s a tricky contract for one, but i can’t justify waiting for machines when paying such a high price per month. I feel like there isn’t enough equipment and I’m not a huge fan of the pool. Facilities are really lovely and clean and the sauna is nice, but for the price I think the swimming and spa experience is better at the angel club. Not a huge fan of how the changing rooms are exclusive to trans people - I think if you must comply with specific rules then there are always opportunities to be more inclusive.

Too busy. I came on a Monday evening to the gym and there was a class happening in the main gym area meaning anyone paying for a membership wasn’t able to use the gym fully. The gym is small enough with limited facilities and the fact the class instructor told me rudely to move twice while plugged into a microphone was humiliating and rude. There should be a specific room for that class to take place in it should not take place on the main gym floor as that doesn’t allow people to use the gym facilities and space which we’re paying a lot of money for! This must change. Horrible experience pure gym wouldn’t do this save your money guys.

I really like this gym. The classes are brilliant and the site mostly is very clean and well looked after. It is on the smaller side, but there’s a real personal feel to club which makes such a difference. Have really enjoyed my time at the club so far.

Our daughter attends the swimming class here with Stella who is the swimming instructor, she is absolutely amazing and has a lovely and fun way of teaching the kids to swim. Thank you Stella and we hope you have a lovely new year and can't wait for the new session to begin.

Something has gone terribly wrong at Virgin Active Crouch End. It used to be a club that was relatively efficient and staffed with friendly employees. Now the swimming pool is seemingly closed all the time while the club is plagued by poor staffing levels, and many of those that do work there have an increasingly bad attitude. I primarily used the club for the pool, so given it was always closed when I wanted to use it, I requested not to pay my month's membership notice. I was told to come into the Club to discuss with the manager. I did exactly that, but was told that no manager was available. I was informed I would get a call the next day. Surprise, surprise. No call came. I phoned the club a couple of days later and explained the situation and how irritated I was, and asked again for a refund. The person answering the call seemed to think the whole thing was funny. Avoid this club.

I joined the club in January and since then I've been very happy with the facilities. The pool is a good enough size, the steam room is also good as the heat is at the right temperature and the gym equipment has a decent variety. The staff are helpful and knowledgable such as Ben and Mussa.
