I went for a family meal here on a late December Sunday evening, and it was fabulous! The food was great and served swiftly - our waitress, Immy, was charming and very helpful and accommodating. I especially recommend the sticky toffee pudding.
Sunday roast was probably the worst I have ever experienced as the whole plate of food had been reheated a number of time which meant the food was dry and tasteless. The worst aspect was the waitress who seemed to consider my complaint flippant and did nothing about it. Majority of the food was returned to the kitchen but I still had to pay £16 and received no apology.
We didn't stay here, but passed through for a pint and lunch and it's a wonderfully cosy pub with a friendly atmosphere and friendly service. The food we had was also delicious. Well worth a visit!
My wife and I stayed at the weary friar inn for a week.we had the standard Room. We used the inn as a base point. The inn itself is a beautiful place. Very quirky and worldly. Plenty of room for dinning. They have a large events room that is geared up for wedding and other parties. The staff and the owner were lovely. The breakfast was really good. You had the choice of fryups or cereal, basic fruits like apples orange and bananas. Tea coffee and choice of juice. I have to be honest so have to say for the price the room was a bit small, our bed was very creeky. There were no proper seat for the dressing table. A stool was provided but honestly not the Ideal thing especially as it wasn't adjustable, and wasn't really stable. The rooms could do with modernizing without losing the character. The bathroom was basic but functional. We had a kettle and all the stationaries that we needed. In the hallway they had all extra tea bags milk etc available for you to help yourself which I thought was a great touch. This saves you from keep on having to ask for them this includes the loo rolls. The Inn has a great character to it so much so that they filmed some seems for the TV show Beyond Paradise. The one amazing thing this inn has is that they are very dog friendly, they do dog ice-cream. They hold dog events/group gathering. Please expect to drive for activities shopping etc because there are none nearby. There are plenty of narrow roads and fields. Roads are not for the fainthearted or for caravans. Recommend for traveling, if looking for something quirky oldy and historical,dog friendly family friendly.
We didn't stay but we ate there and the food was fantastic. I had fish and chips and it was excellent. Really great batter the chips were just perfect. Lovely brie starter and a huge dessert. Staff were lovely too. Really nice place to eat. Wife had some great vegan options too.
Had a really nice meal large helping and all very tasty. As I had mentioned it was for my wifes birthday when booking, she was treated to balloons and banners which were not asked for but still done. Would recommend to anyone thinking of having a meal here. Excellent service.
Absolutely fantastic food, the landlady and staff were so accommodating, it is really worth a visit. The open fire was lit and made it so warm and cosy. The photos really don't do the food justice, Hunters Chicken which came with pineapple and tomato and Mushroom Stroganoff made with french mustard yum yum.
Booking by phone, pleasant and polite. Large car park opposite. Meal from Christmas menu, excellent quality and good value. Local ales. Scrummy dessert.
Disappointing, long wait (45 mins) for prawn and salmon cocktail. Further long wait for mains (Christmas roast) which was lukewarm and overdone. Landlord and Landlady were nowhere in sight, so only youngsters left to cope with bar full of drinkers. Staff were great considering nobody in authority was about.
A very pleasant overnight stay, room was nice, well decorated, clean and with a large TV. Staff were friendly and helpful. Had dinner in the restaurant, food was nice and reasonably priced. I'd be happy to stay here again
