Great selection of tasty craft beers, very friendly staff and I particularly liked that when they are not too busy they offer a taster of the beer before purchase. Excellent. Kid and pet friendly venue, I will return.

We had our wedding reception at Northern Lights last week and were extremely happy with the quality of service and the friendliness of the team. We contacted them a few months in advance and arranged a visit. We found the staff to be super friendly, with a great selection of high quality beers. In terms of communication ahead of the event - the venue were extremely accommodating. We got to choose from a selection of food platters (which were fantastic and our guests loved them) and also got the opportunity to decorate the venue as we saw fit - they even let us come in the day before to pre-plan the decorations. When we arrived on the day the venue had gone above and beyond - decorating our reception and making sure everything looked the part. We were also able to play our own music and do our speeches via their sound system. All our guests had a fantastic time - we couldn't have asked for a more accommodating venue. If you're looking to plan a Micro Wedding with total freedom to decorate, fantastic food and a great atmosphere you cannot go wrong with Northern Lights.

Great vibe. It was comfort and relaxed. However the foods were not that good. It was salty and oily. After eating I did not feel well may be because it was too rich for me.

As regular patrons of Northern Lights we’ve come to deeply appreciate the bar’s consistent excellence in both its beer selection and its atmosphere. It’s a space that strikes a rare balance: relaxed yet vibrant, accessible yet discerning, and welcoming even to families with children. The recent Aurora Beer Festival, held over two days, was a particularly impressive expression of the bar’s ethos—a carefully curated celebration of the local and regional craft beer scene. Among many excellent pours, the standout was a superbly rich imperial stout from White Hag in Sligo—bold, complex, and the perfect centrepiece for a festival of this kind. Special credit is due to Aidan, who not only delivered his usual attentive and well-informed service, but also took on the considerable task of organising the entire festival. The result was an event that felt cohesive and seamless—no doubt benefiting from the structured, analytical mindset he brings to both the bar and, as we’ve gathered, his scientific research. That dual expertise showed in everything from the thoughtful pacing to the clarity of presentation. Northern Lights continues to distinguish itself not by flash or trend, but by intention. It’s a place where hospitality feels genuine, where beer is taken seriously without being pretentious, and where events like Aurora reflect a quiet ambition to raise the bar for what a local can be. We’ll be back soon—as always—and are already looking forward to what comes next.

We've been running our retro arcade here for a number of months and it's been a great experience. We've been welcomed with open arms and helped with every aspect of running our events, they even made a special retro food menu for us which has been a great success! Great venue, great staff and kudos to Aidan who reached out and got us there.

Really nice bar. Good beer and food. The seafood chowder is 10/10.

Nice craft beer bar with a good selection on tap and in the fridge. Weekends it can get rammed and gets incredibly noisy. Limited seating and the long table which is parallel to the bar makes it hard navigating your way back with drinks and dodging others on the way to the loos. Great to have a bar like this in the area ❤

This place is rocking, craft ale and food (I haven't tried the food but it is popular). We have been sharing ourselves in other bars so being back for the first time in a good few years is great. I live local so during the frosty period we have just had and, the lack of local transport, buses were running but very infrequent. It was great to discover that the bar is better than it was. I will be back in now I have rediscovered a wee gem of a bar. When it was the Brewbot a lot of people said it wouldn't last, thanks to Galway Bay Brewery it has lasted and will continue to do so. Busy but room to sit and chat. Drop in sometime you will not regret it.
