Always quick and easy to get my prescriptions. The usual wait to see medical staff but the staff are friendly and professional

It’s not that I have had awful experiences every time that I have been to this practice but this morning really made me question their practices. I gave birth 2 weeks ago, and this morning spoke to the emergency midwife number as I suspected I had mastitis, they advised I will require antibiotics before it becomes more severe and said to call my doctors for an appointment. They said this should be a priority appointment. On calling the doctors, the receptionist was not at all empathetic to the situation, said there was no appointment today and nothing for another week. I was told to go to a walk in centre. Given that I have a 2 week old, breastfed baby, this seems like poor advice. She is currently vulnerable. We had to take her A&E last week where we were put in a separate room but ultimately my partner became ill a few days later. We have had to be cautious at home so that she does not catch it too. Thankfully, after speaking to the midwife team again, I was able to go to the maternity triage, which still resulted in a long wait but I needed antibiotics today. They commented that it was shocking that I didn’t get a doctors appointment for an infection which can worsen very quickly, and having a newborn baby to feed. I understand that receptionists have to ask what the issue is to ascertain whether the case is priority, and I feel in this situation the broader picture and health of a vulnerable newborn baby was not taken into account, which is very disappointing, it makes you question whether they view you as a human being, or just another call to get out the way. Please try better

Never understood the bad reviews. Moved to here from OM Surgery as they wouldn’t sort my problem out, which led to Whyburn noticing I needed surgery! Always get an appointment, even if it’s abit of a wait, it’s fine. Online appointments exist too. Doctors and receptionists are always lovely.

Doesn’t even deserve 1 star. Absolutely shocking surgery. I am not one to call doctor’s ever as I am overall very healthy and don’t need doctor’s services. The one time I call with severe tonsillitis, baring in mind waiting 35 minutes in the queue, got completely dismissed and told to go to a pharmacy first with a “sore throat” then got told I will get an appointment the week after if pharmacy doesn’t help. By the time you actually get an appointment you don’t even need that appointment anymore. No wonder so many are forced to go privately, NHS and this country is messed up.

It is indeed challenging to secure an appointment here, but it would be unfair to hold them solely responsible given the widespread issues affecting the entire country. I have consistently observed the receptionists to be professional, accommodating, and cheerful in their interactions. In order to address the increasing demand for healthcare services and the aging population, it is essential to expand the number of local GP practices, train and supply a lot of new doctors and nurses. The £350 million per week that was promised by Nigel Farage and Boris Johnson during the Brexit campaign would certainly be beneficial, however, the narrative surrounding Brexit is now concluded and we must accept the current situation.

Worst surgery ever. I've been with them since I was a child and it gets harder and harder to make an appointment, if you don't ring at exactly 8:30 they tell you to come back tomorrow because they won't make you an appointment... reception always have attitudes feels like they hate dealing with patients maybe they should get a new job, Dr Connor was the only good doctor and now he's gone .

The Bad: If you're transgender I don't recommend Whyburn as the doctors are not familiar with trans needs and will not undertake any responsibilities like regular injections or medicine reviews. The telephone system only allows 5 patients to queue at a time so if you need something like an emergency appointment during busy periods you will have to repeatedly call until you're able to get onto the queue. It's very frustrating. The Good: Staff are very friendly and helpful where they can be. While I haven't personally found Dr.Connor to be very receptive to my needs other doctors and nurses at the practice have been very kind and accomodating for me. Nurses were happy to teach me how to safely perform my own hormone injections. There's a phlebotomist on site and two pharmacies nearby which is very helpful for picking up meds after a prescription is issued.

great when you can get in. can spend a long time on hold. (20+ min to move 1 queue place forward then be cut off) and just after a prescription, that could be added to the online portal but wasn't. wastes a lot of time in appointments for staff when could order direct. online appointments only available for smears so only helpful once every 3 years, waste of a tool.

Completely shocking neglect and lack of care. I saw a GP there Who referred me for an ADHD assessment but suggested if I could afford to pay to go private it would be quicker than the 2 years NHS wait. I then sent two emails to the surgery asking for advice as to which private provider to choose, to ensure it was NHS endorsed. I received no reply to those emails. After extensive research of my own I chose a provider, went through the process and was diagnosed, starting treatment with them straight away. After several thousand pounds worth of appointments and private medication my private Dr signed me back to Whyburn to continue what has been positive and life changing medication for me. A care proposal was emailed to Whyburn, guess what, they didn't respond. After having to chase it twice, I have been told today that they only accept shared care proposals from two specific private providers. Therefore I'll have to keep paying privately for my medication at a cost of almost £200 per month. I am completely disgusted with the poor service and total lack of care they have shown here.

I have been a patient at the surgery since I was a small child. Now both myself and my children attend. The last 3 years I have been treated and seen regularly by Dr Connor. I have never been made to feel like I am wasting anyone's time and he is always willing to try and help in any way. Both my girls have also been seen by him on multiple occasions. They have always been spoken to in an age appropriate manner and spoken too rather than over. We have had both telephone and face to face appointments. We have had phone calls around 8pm on days when the surgery has obviously been busy. I have also had Saturday appointments which i didn't realise was a thing. All the nurses I have had contact with are extremely friendly and make you feel at ease when appointments with them arnt always for the most plesent reasons. The phone lines can be hard to get through on at peak times but there is always the option of going into surgery and speaking to someone on reception. Overall I highly recommend the practice and would recommend to anyone moving into the area. Hats off to Dr Connor. The practise has massively improved since he has been working there!!
