    Mount Batten Breakwater, sometimes also called The Cattwater Breakwater, was originally built in 1881 and refurbished in 1995, it was built to protect the lower river Plym (called locally the Cattwater) and Plymouth Barbican and Sutton Harbour. For a couple of evenings every August (since 1997) the breakwater is closed to the general public so that the British Fireworks Championship can take place, this free to attend competition is watched by over 200,000+ people annually.

    Great place to spend a weekend. A ferry runs to and from the Barbican everyday. There are a few places to eat right in the doorstep, plus a beach a few yards away that is excellent for swimming.
