Very pleasant walk in your own back garden. A bit mudd in places so dress accordingly. Not too long a walk so suits all fitness levels
A nice spot for a short walk up and down Bircham valley, paths cross cross and amble around both allotments and a hospital, not always easy to workout which route is the best but easy enough not to get lost.
A good flat walk along the new footpath. I'm sure it'll look better once the plants have grown and I'll be a bit greener.
How is anyone supposed to visit this place? Every single parking place says "private land" but didn't say whether you can park or not. Want a walk? Want it enough to risk £100 fine? Nope.
This place is beautiful and full of wildlife including: deer, fox, badgers, hedgehogs, owls, bats, birds, water shrew, newts, toads, and a variety of invertebrates. There is also an array of ancient woodland indicator species ranging from bluebells, primroses, Holly, and more.
Beautiful place to go for a walk, you wouldn't think you're in a city. Plymouth needs more of these places closer to the centre.
I love this nature reserve, have walked my dog around it for years. Just a shame that certain areas (mainly the bits at the back of housing estates) have been used as a rubbish dump, the lovely wooden bridges that were there were repeatedly vandalised so now many replaced with metal. Others have been damaged by fallen trees and not repaired. There are quite a few fallen trees which require climbing over or finding a way round. That aside I still love it, especially when the bluebells grow. If you are lucky you will come across deer, rabbits and squirrals

This isn't the best nature reserve in Plymouth but is worth a visit if you are in the area. The official entrance from Brest Road is awful and there are no signs to say where you can go. There is an entrance from Derriford Hospital but also one from The Ship which I am not sure is public access or not. There are two entrances that are locked gates and so unclear. The main path is good quality through most of the reserve but a couple of the timber bridges are dilapidated and one of them has even partly collapsed. There are quite a few spots where you can see the stream but not a lot else to see. At one point the reserve crosses Blunts Lane but it is unclear where the official paths are on either side of the road. I would recommend using GPS and an app with maps that show the paths.
