I didn't have food but this pub is so homely and I like that fact it hasn't been made to modern which spoils the character of a lot pubs nice home fire too and a nice choice of real ales too.

This was a birthday meal for our daughter and her partner. The initial welcome was good and the starter and main course very tasty. We were asked if we wanted a sweet and we said we would like an appreciation gap and we understood the waitress would return. Sadly no-one returned and when my husband went to ask about dessert, we were told the chef had gone home! We went down to pay the bill and expressed our disappointment about the sweets and were told that we had been offered a sweet, but we had declined, showing a complete lack of empathy. Blaming the customer is not conducive to encouraging a return visit Thankfully Sainsbury's came to the rescue and we were able to complete our birthday meal.

What a delightful old pub in Nantwich. The food, the drink and wonderful ambience make this well worth a visit. Brimming with historic charm and a children's policy (over 12s only) which ensures a relaxing visit. I have to commend the landlord on enforcing this. Children are a blessing but I simply want to enjoy my downtime time in peace. To hear the crackle of the large open fire and conversation with my partner over a superb plate of food. Huge well done Darren & team. We will be back very soon!

I love the old world vibe of the Black Lion. Exposed beams, good beer and gin selection. Has been a favoured haunt for the last 20 years, through its different iterations. One of my happy places!

Of all the pubs we visit whilst touring the canals this has to be my absolute favourite. Why? Put simply it ticks all the boxes, great service, great ale (I first tasted Weetwoods Best here, loved it and still do), comfortable surroundings and good food all in a lovely old building which is full of character. When in Nantwich we always head for the Black Lion, sometimes more than once (on a good day!) Top marks for good reason.

If you want old world charm this is a pub to visit, maybe the oldest pub in Nantwich loaded with character and charm. Great selection of beers friendly staff and a lovely open fire to warm by in the winter, good hearty meals served at a reasonable price. Well worth a visit if you want to see a little Cheshire charm. Good selection of beers all reasonably priced and there's also a nice outdoor seating area to the side of the building furnished in quite a quirky style.
