We have been to The Elephant on numerus occasions with friends and family over the years and have had mixed experiences however we had the worst experience today. We ordered Thai set menu for 4. The food was terrible; sharing starter was cold and sent back for a new one to be cooked, lettuce cup filling was like a can of veg soup slopped on a plate, BBQ chicken main dish had been reheated so badly it was inedible. Pad thai had no flavour and was clearly pre cooked and microwaved. Nothing had been freshly cooked which is surprising for an empty restaurant at 1pm on a Sunday. Dont know what has changed but sadly we will never go again. Felt sorry for the staff who kept apologising, however there is no excuse for poorly cooked food in an empty restaurant.

Ordered Sesame Prawn Toast appetiser, and it took ages, and then came with the main course (as it did for the table next to mine). Asked for chopsticks and a rice bowl to eat, and was brought chopsticks and told that the rice 'comes in a bowl', which is not what I expected. (The chopsticks were plastic, OK, but very thick right to the end which I found difficult to eat with, and I'm quite used to chopsticks.) The food was quite tasty, though eating the starter with the main course wasn't. My impression was that it was now being run by English staff who really didn't understand how Chinese meals work?

We ordered a take away from here. The delivery was very slow however when it arrived the food was good except the chips. The worse I have ever tasted. So dry they went straight in the bin. Also don't expect to pay £3.50 for prawn crackers on a £50 order.

First time ordering here, was so excited as they had duck spring rolls. They sent us 2 bags of chicken balls instead of 1 and a bag of chips so we were missing chips. The crispy chilli beef was cold. The prawn crackers were mixed with brown crackers too which tasted funny and not very nice paying £3+ pound for prawn crackers I was expecting them to be better. And the duck spring rolls we ended up throwing because they were also cold. We won’t be ordering again.

Ordered a set menu takeaway for a birthday treat. The food arrived luke warm/ cold and the chicken was as tough as leather. The food did not taste freshly cooked in my opinion and I shall not order from here again.

Disappointed. I have eaten in the restaurant before and had no complaints so I decided on a takeaway. I pre ordered for delivery at 7pm, food turned up at 6pm instead. Food was luke warm, there was barely any sauce with my beef with green pepper and black bean sauce, there also only appeared to be one tiny bit of pepper in it and the chips were cold. There was a good amount of beef and the egg fried rice was nice as was the duck fried rice. The free prawn crackers were appreciated but all in all based on the price and the amount of complaints I won't be ordering again.

Went to the elephant over the weekend, service was very poor had to wait over 2 hours for a starter, 45 minutes to take our drinks order, really shame because the food is very good. There was 2 large tables they could not cope. They usually manage small tables well.

Nice chinese food with lots of flavour and well cooked. Recommended the chicken balls with sweet and sour sauce and the pork with green pepper and black bean sauce.

Visiting for the first time for my fiancée's birthday. The table service was prompt and efficient. The food was absolutely delicious! The servings were more than ample, had to get some out into take away containers as we couldn't eat it all. Over all the price was average £20 per head including drinks. Overall a really good night out well worth a visit. We will use them for take away and will edit review then to reflect this.
