Great place to eat. I've had the carvery twice and it's the best I've ever had. Great prices too. The children's play area is handy to keep the kiddies occupied. Service is usually quite good. Friendly staff.

We had our work Christmas lunch here today we were very happy with the service and food on offer. The food came out in a timely manner, especially considering the amount of people in our group. And the value for the food on offer was good. Connor on the carvery station was very friendly and remembered us from last year. He gave great service to all of us and was efficient at getting through our large group order. The assistant manager Ben was also really friendly and helpful with making some last minute changes to our set menu. The only issue we had was a slight problem with the payment for our group booking due to some issues with the online booking system, but that ended up being resolved by the restaurant manager (Lewis I think?) who was great and very helpful. Will definitely be coming back again.

Decent enough, we popped in for breakfast around 1030. It was very quiet, service was quick (I mean, it was empty), foor was decent enough, nothing too fancy but good solid breakfast bits. Bottomless tea and coffee with your breakfast is always a bonus. Also, to mention, it is a buffet style, so help yourself, if youre really hungry you could go for seconds, or thirds, or more maybe... Only 3 stars for atmosphere as its hard to judge when its empty ro be honest. Butnit was nice and quiet for the morning.

*this review relates to two lunchtime visits* Parking - easy Location - near the A6, A421 and on the edge of Kempston, so pretty easy to get to. Ordering - pretty easy, we have ordered on the app and in person at the bar Tables - we visited twice in two weeks in the summer holiday and had no trouble finding a clean table either time. Food - both occasions we ordered the same item (Yorkshire wrap, filled with carvery). Both occasions very tasty food but the wait was dreadful (given it was essentially a carvery item, and fairly quiet) 29 minutes the first time, 19 minutes the second time. We happened to be sitting within sight of the order tracking screen, and there were not many orders in front of ours. Both occasions we needed to chase up with the bar where the food was because being a work day lunch, we were on a deadline.

Well the food was good. Chairs and tables getting shabby. Food took ages to arrive. Coleslaw is listed as gluten free on the menu but the bar staff said it wasn't. We sat for a long time with dirty plates in front of us, isn't someone supposed to clear them away? Gave up on the idea of dessert after sitting with the dirty plates too long. One server was fiddling about arranging the dessert case while chatting to what seemed to be the manager. He tripped over the front of a case but just left it ready for someone else to trip on. Is this standard service?

We came to The Maypole for NYE. Chris, the assistant manager was very attentive to all our needs, very polite and friendly to match with a lovely personality! He really made our little one feel at home and had lots of time for him. The food was beautiful! Carvery lovely quality and nice and hot. Tom the chef, was really friendly too (asking how our Christmas was) with a smile to match! The cakes here are absolutely amazing! You’ll need a cake box to take 3/4 of it home as they are massive!!!!! We will definitely be back soon!! Thank you so much for a NYE meal to remember!!! All the very best for a happy and healthy 2023! Sarah, Kev and Logan xx

Friendly staff. Carvery was fine except for the beef which was very dry.

The visit to this place is one of the most awful experiences I've ever had dining out. First and last visit! No one to greet you at the door, I asked a lady walking by with a tray of drinks, but she didn't work there and couldn't help. Eventually a man, dishevelled looking came, no aplogies for being kept waiting, no chat at all actually,,, we were shown to a rickety, well used table on a filthy carpet in the middle of a characterless area. Once shown where we were sitting the server walked away, no conversation at all, "this is your table", walked away. I went to the bar eventually as that's what other people were doing. Nothing I can say about it is good. The staff, older members rude.. younger members inexperienced. Food, well Carvery, was in a disgusting state presentation wise. Veg hadn't been replenished for some time, roast potatoes were hard on outside and cold inside, cauliflower cheese was grey. Even though we had bought larger plate, the meat sliced was thinly sliced, 3 slices,, we were there at 5pm the choice of 2 meats surprised me and they had been there for some time. When I booked the man, who gave no name, said I could book from 5 as that's when food could be ordered from. The whole meal looked and tasted like warm up. I left mine, my husband ate what he could but neither of us enjoyed food or place. It was my husbands birthday and he loves carvery and I wanted to try somewhere near to Milton Keynes as we had another event booked that night. If it wasn't for the fact I didn't know anywhere else at short notice I would of got up and left. You pay when you queue at the bar for ages to place your order. Didn't see name badges on staff. Furnished poorly, tired and worn. Noisy children running around didn't make for pleasant dining out. I did ask to sit away from family area when I booked, Thankfully we didn't have to wait to pay so we just walked out and left. No one spoke to us to ask about our experience,,, so there you are,, hope that my negative observations don't put you off going. It looks nothing like the website presents it to be, cozy it's not, clean it's not, friendly it's not, good value for money it's not,,, I'm stopping now, you get the picture, it's not a place I'd recommend nor visit again

(Review from April 2022) The place was almost empty during half term which should have been a clue as to what was to come. Service as always was genuinely warm and cheerful from the staff but some elements were bit of a disappointment. We had an incorrect item added to the bill in the first instance then was given the wrong sized plate for one of our carveries. Carvery itself was mostly excellent, but we ordered chips for the kids and they were old and over cooked (recooked) with two very different sized portions. Dessert was a massive disappointment (see photos) when we're queried it an extra squirt of chocolate sauce was dumped on top. We also ordered a regular portion (2 scoops) of ice cream for the kids but was given a single scoop portion which bizarrely didn't come out with our desserts, we had to collect from the bar then they sent us back to the table bring it over. We also ordered decaf coffee due to a health condition and was given regular. Play area was lovely and clean and mostly well maintained apart from the bins which were full to the brim. (Review from August 2021) Cheap and cheerful. Honestly the best, most cheerful service here. But also the slowest. 20 minute wait for desserts when we were one of only 3 tables in the pub. 10 minute wait just to get service at the carvery (no other customers waiting). But food was super and the staff were just lovely.
